I think Colbert will do that. He is a decent person. The jokes were out there. He didn’t say anything else that other people weren’t saying. Hope Kate has people surrounding her who love her and who will help her through this. And the PR mess is the pr mess. But at least she’s able to be out and about, even if experiencing some of chemo side effects. That’s a good sign. I hope Colbert apologizes too. Just because it was already out there it's no less slimy. In fact, the large platform he has just perpetuates the horridness of it. There will always be silly conspiracies, crazy ppl online spreading crazy things... but when the mainstream picks up on it- that's when it blows up. Also: what is exactly is the "joke". She announced months ago she was having a health issue. She asked for a few months to recover. Instead of giving her that gossip spread that her husband killed her, beat her, or that he was cheating on her with her best friend. What's the punchline?? Woman hasn't been seen for a bit- she told us she was having health issues but we think she might be abused or have a cheating husband! Hahahaha- hilarious. Be better ppl.

As a cancer survivor, I might have to back away from social media for a bit. I often have to distance from social media just as a human. I opened up a few threads, and apart from the conspiracy theorists, there are still a lot of people doubling down on the idea that the conspiracy theories are the palace's (her) fault for not releasing enough details, not releasing them fast enough, not getting her out in front of the cameras, being secretive, etc. She was very clear. As she was recovering from surgery, she found out she has cancer. She's been busy helping her kids accept it and starting chemo. She has not been secretive, she's just been busy dealing with her serious health problem. Which, despite this announcement, remains her own private business. I'm not going to bother correcting the people who say Kate's surgery caused her cancer. That's not how it works. I also see others trying to connect getting the COVID vaccine as having caused her cancer. People are incredibly fucking stupid.

People couldn’t even wait a day before asking “why wasn’t William there?”
Ignore these people you don’t like and go about your day.

Ugh. I assume William was just off camera giving her a thumbs up.
I would have had to practice that a lot to get through it without crying, especially the part about helping George, Charlotte, and Louis understand.

I come from a family that openly discusses politics, and after a while, I get tired of hearing about it. Doesn't matter that I'm usually in agreement with them. I keep my stuff to Twitter. However, the usually rational people I follow have become obsessed with the BRF and all their nonsense. I think a lot of the Americans have latched on to Meghan's story, even though the crazies exist on both sides. I've muted words and phrases related to the BRF, and yet this shit still pops up in my TL. We have an important election coming up, so I don't care much about the BRF and their pr snafus regarding Kate's cancer. The whole discussion has devolved into something really gross.

There is that brief moment when she pauses and looks down when talking about starting chemotherapy. Like she had to collect herself after having to say it out loud.

I can admit when I'm wrong. Regardless of my feelings for monarchy as an institution, I do feel bad that I was part of the wild speculation of a person, and a family, that was clearly going through multiple kinds of hell. Though I never went down the rabbit hole of, "Who is that in the car with her mother???" Or was it William? I don't know. I didn't go down the rabbit hole so I don't even know exactly what the theory was or what it was based on.
Wishing the best for her recovery.

I think most of the late-night comedians these days have a lot of decency and show good judgment about where they aim their jokes. There's no Jay Leno around anymore, who used to be known for kicking people when they were down - usually harmless celebrities. John Oliver can be more biting, especially when it comes to the British Royal Family, because he's very anti-monarchy. But Colbert knew a woman had a health crisis, and seized the opportunity to spread an internet rumor about her husband cheating on her on TV. As a joke. I'm surprised by that. It would be appropriate if Colbert took a cue from Craig Ferguson/Britney Spears and said a little something about "his aim being off" with that joke, and wish her good health instead. ETA: Interesting. I don't actually watch Colbert most of the time anymore, especially his monologue. That's a shame. I think Colbert will apologize and probably feels like dog shit. He should. The reason they kept it quiet is to not scare their children who now have to confront their mother’s mortality far, far too young. Colbert himself lost his father and brothers as a child. I hope this reminds him that the BRF are still people with families and that maybe “the public’s right to know” is not their top priority.

Have to add tho that KP PR comms team handled the situation arseways so it’s no wonder that people’s imaginations took off. And it wasnt the general interwebs reading public that killed the Mothers day photo it was big media companies and KP let Kate take the fall for which fuelled imaginations even more. Let's restate this position: Hey, Kate, we wouldn't have participated in global bullying of you if your PR had just told us the exact details of your diagnosis in real time. Yeah, this was definitely a PR problem, and not that the internet is full of callous, cruel people.
