I got chewed out yesterday by a hardcore Swiftie (a total stranger by the way) who was eavesdropping on my conversation with a friend in a public coffee shop. We both think the whole relationship going on right now is obviously fake and we were joking about it. Swiftie girl promptly came up to us and was practically yelling about how we don't know them (fair enough) like she does (come again?), and how we're both bitter cynics who should learn to believe in love. We could barely contain our laughter.
I don't mind Taylor, I really don't. Her music generally isn't my thing but some of it is catchy. I'm pretty neutral on her. But this Travis Kelce thing has publicity stunt written all over it. And yeah, she doesn't need more publicity, but with people as famous as she is, that's not really the point. It's like money to the super wealthy, there's no such thing as too much.
The whole thing is a win for everyone. Taylor and Travis both get headlines and attention (especially now that the Eras tour is on a mini-break), their entourages consisting of Blake Lively and such also get attention, the NFL gets increased ratings (especially among women), stadiums have reported increased ticket sales, everyone benefits. And America gets to write celebrity fanfiction about their epic romance.
I'm not criticizing exactly. Have at it, Swifties. Enjoy the inevitable songs that she'll get out of this where she drops little clues and everyone hyper-analyzes them to figure out if she's talking about Travis. It's a fun game for everyone. But as a neutral observer I find the whole thing super obvious.
