When I said that a 55+ community sounds nice and quiet, I didn't know that PearlySweetcake would be blasting Tom Lehrer and other Demento favorites.

I know the image of a 55+ community is retirees in rocking chairs, but...
...*I’M* 55, and I have a 1972 Les Paul Deluxe and a 100-watt Marshall half-stack, and I am not afraid to use it!
ETA: BTW, the Cybill/Getz record is actually pretty dang good! She’s no Julie London, but she holds her own.

Okay Dementoids! I've resurrected the 12-year-old novelty music thread for us in the Music folder.

House project update. Thank you Carolinian for suggesting Pinterest. That is one irresistible dish of salted nuts. I was on there past midnight the first night. I love and miss my mom, but boy we did not have the same taste in décor. A retiree friend who volunteers for the Assistance League helped haul away my mom's clothing and shoes. And she brought some lovely curtain panels, still packaged, that we hung up in the living room. Muted pearl blue linen, replacing the bright red sheer nylon panels my mom favored. My brother asked what I'd like for my birthday next week, and I asked for a sea-blue Tiffany-style pendant lamp for the dining room, which will replace the current factory-installed "crystal" chandelier (yup).

My brother asked what I'd like for my birthday next week, and I asked for a sea-blue Tiffany-style pendant lamp for the dining room, which will replace the current factory-installed "crystal" chandelier (yup). I would love to see pictures of the new pendant! Here it is. The photo is of it lit. Unlit it's a bit more green. The dining room is smallish and square (maybe 12x12), divided from the living room by archways and wrought iron railing. The blue linen curtains will eventually go there, replacing the bright peacock blue sheer nylon panels currently hanging there. I'm looking for an English muted floral pattern for the living room. The dining room table is hexagonal cherry wood, with matching chairs. My friend and I lifted the table top, and there's a parquet wood chess table underneath. On the flipside of the parquet surface is blue felt for card games. My mom had central air installed years ago (a rarity for western Washington), and I anticipate vaccinated friends and relatives coming over for dinner and game night during hot summer weather.

This should maybe go in the advice thread, but it is household related:
Has anyone used one of those junk-removal services? Like 1-800-Got-Junk or similar. We have a bunch of old electronics and whatnot that Mr. tabby is finally willing to get rid of. While we could haul it down to the recycling center ourselves, at least one piece is quite large and heavy, and neither of us is as young as we were when we put it up in the closet shelf. (Seriously, I'm not sure how we'd ever get it down ourselves.)
Anyway, anyone have a good or bad experience with one of these outfits? It seems like there are lots of them.

Our local version here in the Rubber City has the awesome name Dick’ll Do It! which I think is masterful.
We hired Dick for the final cleanout of my sister’s house after she died, and they took EVERYTHING out, but my understanding is they are also happy to take whatever you point to.
There is also a company that does the same thing that is all military vets, and they charge by the size of the load. They claim to sort the stuff at their end for recycling and donation, but I bet they also resell stuff if they can.
Bottom line, it’s worth a few phone calls.
