We have an ancient sofa that I HATE. It's also too low for my husband to get up easily on his own after his stroke. We've been looking at sofas, but then Covid happened and we put it on hold. Now, we're actively looking into adopting another dog (we already have a good-sized pittie) and now we're thinking of getting a sofa with the chaise built in to make sure all dogs and people have room to be on the sofa. I'd been hesitant at first, because we live in a loft-style apartment and don't have a lot of space for the living room, but I suppose it will work ok and not feel too cramped.

Biondetta, my parents put blocks of wood under their sofa to raise it up. Might be a short term solution for you and the low sofa until you can find something that works better for all of you.

We got an EKTORP sofa from IKEA and a couple of matching ottomans to go in front. When we wanted to stretch out our legs we could pull the ottomans up to the sofa, otherwise they acted as a coffee table. Bonus: storage in the ottomans; negative: have to keep them cleared off to use them this way.

We're looking at the Vimle, since the seat is a bit higher than the Ektorp and probably has slightly firmer cushions. I think we had the Ektorp or something similar in the US. The ottoman is an option, but I think I'd like the chaise part for myself! The chaise does lift up for storage, too, which could be handy for storing bedding and such for my husband's bed, which is downstairs, as well a some of his off-season clothing.

Has anyone made a headboard before? My friend and I are doing next weekend (have the fabric and am getting wood this week). Looking for tips!

No experience here, but If you have seen the BBC shows Money For Nothing or the Repair Shop, you know of Jay Blades. In the time of pandemic, he is hosting a show that splices a bunch of clips from other BBC shows, called Home Fix. At about 34 minutes into the first episode he reupholsters a footstool, and it looks like everything you will probably run into on your headboard, he covers. And if y’all have watched all the Bake Off shows twice already, the Repair Shop releases all the same happy chemicals in my brain.

Nothing to add to the subject, but has anyone else noticed (as I just did) that IKEA product names sound like something from the Coneheads' home planet?

Not my actual home, but I'm looking for some decorating tips. I've moved into an empty office at work, from a cube, which is nice as well as safer with the pandemic. The longest measurement in the room is floor to ceiling, the length and depth aren't that big. I think this high ceiling is creating some of the tension I'm feeling in this room. I can't do too much, it's a temporary office space, but I could do some little things. I have windows on two walls of the office, and I was thinking a long curtain, or just a long piece of fabric might pull the ceiling into the room. We have some tall lamps upstairs, and I'm going to bring one down and see what it does. If I could do whatever I wanted, I think I'd put molding or a picture rail around the top of the room, and paint from the molding up, and match the ceiling. I can't do that. I rummaged around online and the advice is to drop the ceiling, install a tin ceiling, make a mirrored wall to open up the room and lots of other things I can't do. I have a wooden flying cat, and I thought hanging it from the middle of the ceiling on a cord a couple feet long might do something.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
