That’s so great - I’m so glad something positive has come out of the heartbreak of losing your Mom. 💜

I have inherited my late mom's double-wide mobile home in a nice, well-manicured retirement park (for people 55+, so I can live there) My sister's mother-in-law has this exact situation and it's a great community and her home is unbelievably nice. Congratulations and have fun making it your own.

Pearlysweetcake, I'm so glad your mother's passing means a better home for you and your brother! A 55+ community sounds nice and quiet, too!
You mentioned having an uncle check the structure, and putting all the book cases in one room. I don't know how many books/book cases you have, but if it's going to be a lot of weight in one place, please ask your uncle about that. The library area sounds lovely! I've always wanted a dedicated library in my house.
Have fun planning and redecorating!

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes and great suggestions. I've looked at Pinterest for movie memorabilia but didn't know they had home decor ideas. Will take a closer look. And thanks eclair for the advice about the bookcases. There are three (soon to be four) tall bookcases I w ill place in separate spots in the living room. Hope that won't cause a structural strain but I'll check with my uncle.
Next up, the search for a comfy English country-style sofa. You're right, this is fun.

PearlySweetcake, I would think that four distributed book cases should be fine, but it doesn't hurt to check with your uncle. I know if a house has a library with a ton of books there needs to be reinforcing, which I know nothing about. I want to picture you surrounded by your books, all cozy, not sinking through the floor! I hope living in your mother's home will keep her close to you and your brother also. I hope you'll keep us posted about the redecorating and the move!

eclair, I once met a contractor who received the job to reinforce some rooms in Dr. Demento's home. Seems the floors were collapsing under the weight of his massive record collection (he has millions of records, one of the largest private collections). The Dr. and his missus ended up having to move. Last I heard, he has much of his collection in a special warehouse. Anyway, I think of that as a cautionary tale.
I'm spending far too much time online looking at sofas! I know nothing about furniture, but the brand I keep coming back to is something called Henredon, which apparently is something 1) very expensive and 2) discontinued. It figures. The search continues, which is half the fun, right?

Ooh I have a wonderful Henredon chest of drawers that I got second hand years ago. It's fantastic. Maybe you can find something secondhand?
