Ds2 and I are planning to binge the series over the holidays--Mr.d might even join us! I think that sounds like so much fun. It would make for great family viewing. I would love to watch it with my neice, who is going through a Tolkien phase, so much so that I bought her travel posters of Rivendell and Hobbiton and a wooden box with her name burned on it in Elvish. Now THAT was a season finale! I’m glad I stuck it out.

Enjoyed the finale, even though this and the episode before it seemed to drag, like they didn't have enough plot material and wanted to stretch out what they did have. That said, I also expected the forging of the rings to go on longer than it did. That's the cleanest forging workshop ever! I was right about Meteor Man being Gandalf, and when Halbrand frames his forging advice as "a gift" I knew he was really Sauron. I didn't get to see my favorites, Arondil and Bronwynn, and Isildur, but canon dictates Isildur has to show up eventually because he has a key role later, according to Tolkien. My theory is the tavern where the fire was had tunnels underneath it (that was where Theo found the hilt of the sword) and Isildur fell into one when the building collapsed, and was able to use them to escape. Perhaps when Berek finds him we'll see he has some impressive scars from the experience.
