So next Wednesday, July 11, at the 2024 Espy’s, Harry is due to receive the Pat Tillman Award for Service. The award is supposed to go to a person with a strong connection to sports who has served others in a way that echoes the legacy of Tillman. Harry is getting the award for Invictus which seems to me has done more to serve the Sussexes than the athletes over the last few years….
Pat Tillman’s mother isn’t impressed and has called Harry, “controversial and divisive” and noted that there are other worthy individuals who work with veterans who don’t have the money, resources connections or privilege that Harry has.
He & Meghan sure do love to show up to accept an award since they relocated to the USA, all the more so if it seems they are completely undeserving of it.
I guess showing up to award shows to take home another shiny plaque or trophy takes their mind off their various legal & business troubles….

Pretty rich since it was Harry who said "small steps or giving out prizes doesn't make any difference these days." But I guess receiving them is just fine? What a dick.

Reading about the past recipients of the Pat Tillman Award makes me completely convinced that he is undeserving of the honour. Also, his role, if he really cares, should be about honouring other people and other groups. I know, crazy idea.

Most times we hear about this, a royal (no matter what they have done or achieved) should be the person giving the award not receiving it.
Not talking about royals who participate in competitive sport etc.

They go from last year giving it to the Buffalo Bills training staff in this amazing moment where they were celebrated for literally saving a man's life on the field in front of a national audience ... to giving it to a Prince who quit who shows up once a year for attention on himself for hosting games that others created and he attached his name to. Did I get that right?

The ESPY's issued a statement saying that the award is to honor Harry for The Invictus Games. That meets the theme of theme of the award, but it is definitely valid to call out the ESPY's for giving this award to a privileged celebrity who has already received far more than his fair share of adulation and honors. The award in the past has gone to a mixture of famous and non-famous people, but mostly non-famous. After the ridiculous aviation award Harry got from The Church of Scientology John Travolta, he should have had his representatives cool it for a while on having him collect more awards. He and Meghan should both be embarrassed by how often they are going to galas to be honored, especially considering how much they actually do.

Harry & Meghan have made showing up to collect an award a regular occurrence over the last few years.
Back in 2022 they received the RFK Ripple of Hope Award. That’s the award that Kerry Kennedy initially said was for speaking out against institutional racism within the royal family only to backtrack at the awards show and claim it was for their work in mental health.
Also in 2022 they received the NAACP award for their distinguished public service.
2023 brought the MS Foundation women of Vision award for Meghan. That was the night of their near death car chase through NYC…. You might have thought that would have turned them off award shows altogether but no, apparently not!
Harry is now up to 2 awards in 2024 so far. Feels like Meghan should be looking for something to put herself forward for so she doesn’t feel left out. She didn’t show up with Harry at the Legends of Aviation awards. I’d have guessed as this awards show is higher profile (and I’m assuming televised?) that she’ll show for this unless she decides it’s better to let Harry take the flack over this award solo.

Definitely makes me wonder how much Tillman’s widow, Marie, has to do with the selection process. I really did think better of her than this.

Of all the bogus awards Harry has claimed, this is the one he's probably actually the most qualified for, just in the sense that he is the "face" of the Invictus games (we all know he does approximately none of the legwork). And yet it's the one for which he's getting the most flack, by far. Don't mess with the legacy of Pat Tillman!
If I were in his shoes I don't think I could accept knowing how much controversy this has caused, but I'm sure Harry believes he deserves it. He's already proved to be pretty shameless.
