I grew up with Picture Pages (time to get your crayons and your pencils) and Fat Albert and the thought of Bill Cosby being a rapist is just too much for my brain to handle. I'm not even being funny - I really can't wrap my brain around it.
If something bad ever comes out about Mister Rogers I will probably need to go into therapy for a while.

I feel like this scandal flares up every 5 years or so, then Cosby's PR team does a collective mind-wipe and all we remember about him are Jello pudding and ugly sweaters. Seriously! I remember reading that Slate article when it came out and remembering then that I heard those allegations before. But then when I read about Hannibal Burress'routine it was like, oh yeah, I forgot that happened. And I'm not even a fan of his. I never really got into The Cosby Show. I mean you think it would be a much bigger scandal. Here is what Hannibal said: This article has the video too. It reads pretty incendiary but it comes off as much more humorous. Maybe because Hannibal has such a laid back delivery.

I'm the opposite: I remember when this all came out in the news last time. A few months after the pound cake speech. And then a new allegation came out about a year after that, which was on the Today Show. All the Cosby thinkpieces I've read since have mentioned it. (I can't find the others I wanted right now). I just think that Dyson (whom I don't think is that good of a scholar) and Buress, who I think is hilarious, miss the point when they try to tie the sexual assaults with Cosby's political beliefs. It makes as much sense as tying it to his comedy or his TV shows. He should be on trial for every one of these sexual assault cases, should be in jail if convicted, and every cent of his vast Jell-O fortune should go to the victims. But that has nothing to do with whether he's right about rap music and pulling your pants up. And people lose the argument when they try to conflate them. The discussion shouldn't be "How dare Cosby talk shit about other people? He's a hypocrite!" But "Bill Cosby is a rapist. Full stop."

If something bad ever comes out about Mister Rogers I will probably need to go into therapy for a while. I worked with a guy who'd been a cameraman on Mister Rogers show some years earlier. He said Mister Rogers was just as nice and caring off camera as on. He had an autographed poster of him in his apartment. So I think you're safe.

I think Im going to avoid all further information about Mister Rogers just in case. This can be the last bit of information I learn. On topic, Bill Cosby is still out there. He is coming to my town next year to give some talk/show/comedy routine/whatever his act is these days. People are already making plans to buy tickets and go.

Didn't you ever think that Mr Rogers was a little ... familiar with Lady Elaine? I found their relationship uncomfortable at times.

I'm not even being funny - I really can't wrap my brain around it. If something bad ever comes out about Mister Rogers I will probably need to go into therapy for a while. There was a recent documentary on Mr. Rogers where people who knew him, even in passing, told stories about their experiences knowing him. I basically bawled the entire time I watched. He was such a kind, gentle, tolerant, thoughtful person. I've been seeking out stories about him since I was little. He really was an amazing person. Bill Cosy though? Yeah. I'm amazed this is coming up again and sticking. I remember as far back as the '80s that there were pretty strong rumors that date rape was his MO. (I even think some victims tried to come forward from his standup days and were hushed/ignored.) People have been looking the other way for a long time with this dude.

The discussion shouldn't be "How dare Cosby talk shit about other people? He's a hypocrite!" But "Bill Cosby is a rapist. Full stop." Maybe people mention how much of a hypocrite Cosby is because if you happen to be black and you are going to criticize the black community, you may have more credibility if you didn't have elephant-sized skeletons in your closet (especially when mainstream society is watching). It's just a thought. I might be more willing to listen to that type of criticism from someone like Barack Obama* or maybe even Oprah. (By the way, I am still hoping that the POTUS doesn't have any signicant skeletons in his closet either-like a mistress, a secret love child, etc.) By the way, this is the first time I am hearing of any Cosby assault allegations. Since Cosby didn't sue this other comedian (yet) for slander, I guess there is some element of truth to it. I'm amazed that he managed to get away with it for this long (if true).
