Really? I knew girls who had boyfriends older than that and it was considered pretty normal. Don't get me wrong, I think Chad's a huge jerk for cheating on Sophia and an idiot for getting engaged again so quickly, but I don't really think a six year age difference between he and his new girlfriend is very big.

Six years isn't a big difference when one person is 24 and the other person is 30. It is a huge difference when the youngest person is still in high school, and the older person is six years out of school. That means the older person has been a functioning adult (which is, I guess, questionable here) for years, and the younger person is taking chemistry tests.

No doubt Chad is less mature than some eight year olds, but even in general, I don't think 24 year olds are light years away from 18 year olds when it comes to maturity - I think they're in pretty similar places. Looking at my younger brothers, a lot of guys that age aren't 'functioning adults' by any stretch. Isn't the age bracket for 'young' 18-24 anyway? I'm thirty and while I might've dated a cute 18 year old when I was 24, now that I'm settled into a career and about to be a parent, I cannot imagine being with a 24 year old now.

Kenzie was rumored to be 17, until they announced their engagement and gave her age as 18. 24 year old men--who have already been out of high school for six years and, in Chad's case, have already been married AND divorced--should not be going after 17-year-olds. It's illegal and gross, and the fact that Chad is a well-established scumbag (as evidenced by the five-month marriage that ended when he cheated with Paris Hilton, and that whole Hilary Duff debacle) makes the whole thing even sadder.

Maybe her friends don't think it's weird. Maybe they think Kenzie is soooo lucky to have landed a TV "hottie." But the fact still remains that he is a scumbag, which you can deduce from reading Us Weekly. I'm sure there's even more gossip going around that town, given what I've heard about the Dawson's Creek kids that never made it into the press--that's what makes me wonder what her friends, who have potentially been exposed to this, think.

I am currently 24 years old and am disgusted by the thought of dating an 18 year old.

I'm a year away from finishing law school and I'd like to think I am light years away from the 18 year old mentality. I think the two ages really have almost nothing in common. A lot of growing up is done, I think, between 20 and 23.

Disgusted? Wow. Different strokes, I guess. I think it's a bit silly to see an 18 year old as a baby or to say at what age someone does their growing up. It really depends on what someone is doing with their life. I was in university when I was 24 and so were some cute 18 year old boys. I've known teenagers that were much more mature than people in their twenties. I would bet my life that this girl is more mature than Chad or at least on his level.

I saw the most cringeworthy clip of him on The View. Sophia was in the audience and the women made a joke about how "he made a film with Paris but not that kind of film". Both Chad and Sophia laugh but of course, we know that he really did sleep with Paris, so it's so embarrasing now.

What was the Hillary Duff debacle? Hasn't she been with that Good Charlotte guy since she was fifteen?

I think there is a big difference between 17/18 and in high school and 18/19 and in college. When you are in high school and still living with your parents, I don't think dating someone who is a tax paying adult is appropriate. CMM may be extremely immature, but I don't think that gives him an excuse to date vulnerable young girls. It may sound sexist, but I think there is a big difference between a 24 year old woman dating an 18 year old boy, and a 24 year old man dating an 18 year old girl. (But if she really was 17 at the time wouldn't that be statutory rape in California?)
I haven't liked CMM since I saw a show on MTV about House of Wax. He came off very arrogant and toolish. Something tells me he would be very predatory in a relationship.

Agreed, plainjane. I'm not even sure I believe Kenzie is 18 yet--I think they're lying about her age to make the whole situation more palatable to America. I've known plenty of guys who go for younger girls in particular because they like that the younger girls are still "pure," or at least very naive and impressionable. It's certainly possible that this could happen the other way around (with older women preying on impressionable boys) but it seems unlikely. Chad may be as mature as Kenzie emotionally, but he's still been around the block.

Well, yeah, Chad is a tool and that's why I'd disapprove of the relationship. I just don't think the six year age gap is a big deal; I'd still warn this girl off if she were 24 or Chad was 18.
