Robbie going into rehab. Is this really a story. It's more like a sad state of affairs. The man supposedly has everything. Everything except the good sense to know freaking better about taking drugs. I don't get that. I wish his light would just burn out; so we can forget about this ugly git. He's a two bit no talent waste. I guess he started taking the drugs because he realized he's really "not talented"

I think Robbie is tremendously talented, but what makes his music so interesting to me is the same thing that keeps him so miserable: his obvious self-loathing. This latest round in rehab is just another manifestation of said self-loathing, and while I think it's produced some great music with some truly fantastic lyrics, it could very well doom him in the end.

I completely agree. RW is nothing, if not talented. As I posted before, he has the voice and stage presence that might recall a sort of latter-day Freddie Mercury and when the ironic nostalgia of the younger market collides with the navel-gazing nostalgia of their parent's generation, lo, a very lucrative market can arise. So there's every reason he could have been successful in the US market if he had followed this line of attack. But Williams's problem has always been his huge ego battling with his bitterly low self-esteem, both over his physical appearance and his perceived sexuality, and partly because of this, he has proven himself one very unpleasant individual more than once on British TV. I just think a lot of us are sick of him over here.

I'm a big Robbie fan, and I'm not surprised that he's going to rehab. There's a whole song on the Rudebox album about being addicted to prescription drugs. It features the lyrics, "Give me loads of pills, give me loads of pills, give me loads of pills.." It's not very subtle.
Sadly, today is Robbie's birthday, and an addiction to prescription drugs isn't really the best birthday present.

A lot of people, famous or otherwise, rich or otherwise, "blessed" or otherwise, have the good sense to know better than to take drugs, but that doesn't mean that they don't end up using.
Being famous, successful, and rich doesn't mean you're happy, or even necessarily that you should be. Most of the things that make me happy have nothing to do with money or fame.

I've always believed this too. Well, if not gay then certainly bi. He always seems so restless and unhappy. If it's not something to do with his sexuality maybe he has some kind of mood disorder. Not to start diagnosing people on the internet, but something's clearly going on with him.
As much as I love his camp self, I don't see that going down well in America. He should just give up, find something that makes him happy, and stay out of the public eye. Lord knows he must have plenty of money.

Or just give his all to his European fans. They clearly adore him. Not every artist is an international star. But I guess success is always defined individually, and I suspect for Robbie, that means hitting it big in the USA. Ah well--hope he gets better soon. Anyone have Rudebox? I was about to download it from I-Tunes but something is stopping me. Is it good?

He's very very talented in my opinion. I think the highlight of his career was singing My Way at his concert in Royal Albert Hall. It never fails to make me tear up.
This is just perfectly put.
I wonder how much of this has to do with his days in Take That. He's stated time and again how much he hated it, the way others made decisions for him all of the time and pretty much ran his life. I remember he once talked about how, when he left the group and moved to live on his own for the first time, at 21 years old (IIRC), he had no idea how to do things. It must've had some effect on how he is now?
