Ireland Baldwin recently put up a lengthy Instagram post mostly about body image, but she also got into people always asking her opinion on Alec's growing brood. Here is what she had to say on that: “Lastly, I get countless messages from people who are kind of alarmingly obsessed with my father and his family. I think a lot of people assume my take on any of this, well here it is for free – it’s none of my business. To all the media outlets who have reached out for a quote – there’s your quote. I don’t care. My life is here in Oregon with my boyfriend, 6 dogs, and my new business. I smoke weed, I eat good food, and I mind MY own business.” I think that pretty much says it all. I'm sure Hilaria would have preferred a gushing stream of congratulations and over the top proclamations about how much she loves the Baldwinitos and the more the merrier! Instead, the best/most polite response she could muster is "it's none of my business" and "I don't care." And she refers to the whole crew as "his family," not her family. She seems to have pretty well separated herself from the entire dog & pony show. I'm sure she thinks her dad and Hilaria are nuts. I don't read this as any sort of commentary on her dad and step mom. I read her comment as being fed up with the absurdity of reaching out to her, a relatively private citizen, to comment publicly on her dad. I think she has every right to be annoyed by that if she in fact is. I don't think anyone in her shoes should be expected to dish about her family to the public, and I think it's not right to project public perceptions on her. There's a lot of space for her relationship with her dad to be complex, and absolutely no reason for the public to know about it.

And honestly, what would people expect? Those kids are her brothers and sisters and she’s definitely posted photos of her with them before. I’m sure she loves and cares for them just like any older sibling would.

Ireland's post was just the usual evidence of the dysfunctional relationship Millenials have with social media. Ireland shares her whole life on instagram with 690,000 followers who only know her because of who her parents are. She calls her followers her friends, and they in turn respond by telling her they love her and think she's wonderful. They also ask her overly personal questions because they need to feed their weird social media love feelings.
Of course she is under no obligation to answer any personal questions, but I find these types of instagram rants incredibly stupid. She also ranted about people asking her about her job and her boyfriend, and usually whenever she's in the news it's because she's gone on a rant about how much social media comments upset her and cause her anxiety.
There are a number of incredibly easy ways to fix this ongoing social media anxiety and unpleasantness that Ireland has been complaining about for YEARS: delete her instagram account. Or start a private instagram that she only lets her real friends follow. Or disable the comments on her instagram. Or disable the direct messaging function. Or just ignore the comments and messages and don't respond. It all doesn't need to be as fraught as these kids make it.
Anyway, since this caused me to actually go and creep on her instagram: it's clear she's very close to her mother, sees her often, and has many good things to say about her. Her relationship with her "father and his family" are not evident.

Ireland responds to absolutely everything. For someone who supposedly doesn't want to comment, I'm not sure why she doesn't just try not commenting. She had thoughts on Hilaria's Spanish Inquisition. She was quoted on the shooting of Halyna Hutchins. And now she just had to say something about the continuing baby factory. I guess I don't see that as the reaction of someone who's truly fed up. As far as I can tell, Kim Basinger comments on absolutely nothing. Ireland could easily take a page out of her book.
I think her word choice matters. We know Hilaria would just love it if she could have Ireland's very public support, because it would further the happy family narrative she's so desperate to achieve in the face of all the madness. But instead Ireland chooses to say "I don't care."
Ireland has maybe posted 4-5 times in the past 3 years about her siblings, and there has been nothing about Hilaria. Every so often Alec will chime in with a "By the way, I also have an older daughter, and even though I don't post pictures calling her 'mi vida' every day I still do love her. No seriously." I mean, she has to have mixed feelings about becoming seemingly sort of an afterthought in her dad's new life. Every once in a while I think that bitterness comes through, and this last post seemed like an example of that to me.

To be fair, it might be part of her brand and agreement to model to have a 'Gram account. Sure, she could farm it out to someone or not read the comments or a host of other solutions. In her field, it must be helpful to have an account. It does raise visibility and probably creates fans. But, you're right, a total double-edged sword.

Also, her father is on record calling her a “rude, thoughtless little pig”; the divorce between her dad and her mother, Kim Basinger was incredibly acrimonious (Alec accused Kim of parental alienation syndrome*); and Kim Basinger has been very vocal in her battle with agoraphobia and anxiety disorders. I wish Ireland the best. * I did a report on parental alienation syndrome (PAS) for my graduate school class about the use of junk science in the legal system. Even though I don’t doubt that parents can alienate one parent from another, especially in a bitter divorce, the APA and DSM has never recognized it as a diagnosis and its use remains controversial to this day. Unfortunately, it is used in courts due to its precedence of use in divorce courts. Wikipedia article on PAS.

Sometimes relationships with difficult parents simply work best at a distance.

Production of “Rust” fined.$137,000 sounds incredibly low. I’m guessing each state sets the maximum penalty, but it’s seems so small. I hope Alec doesn’t give more interviews about this, but he’s probably not going to hold back.

I’m guessing each state sets the maximum penalty, but it’s seems so small. It's the maximum citation severity and maximum fine according to state law apparently. It's a very interesting article. I understand Alec defending his personal liability in the matter, but it's really inexcusable that he has gone on TV to proclaim that the production was totally safe *and* has gone on the attack against the employees who walked off of the job because of safety concerns, portraying them as greedy and selfish. If nothing else, Alec has completely betrayed the political ideals he vocally espouses. Just days before the accident, he was on his instagram spouting off about labor, management, workers being mistreated. I know it will never, ever happen, but he should be keeping his trap shut for the rest of his life.
