I could have sworn there was a long thread for him (and his ad for the Cumming cologne) but apparently I imagined it all. I love Alan Cumming and his impish, flamboyant personality. I'll even watch a movie I know I'm going to hate ( e.g., The Anniversary Party), just to see him. (Unfortunately, from one of the interviews linked below, it seems that his Nightcrawler character won't be in the new X-Men 3 movie.) Talk here about "the frolicky pansexual sex symbol for the new millennium" and "his killer charm."

I met him once. He was tiny and had a whispery voice and was holding a Barbie doll.
It was backstage after the play Design for Living, which a friend of mine was in.

If you don't mind me asking, what was he doing with a Barbie Doll ? Gah. After watching him on The L Word, I am almost afraid to know the answer to that.

If you don't mind me asking, what was he doing with a Barbie Doll ? I haven't the faintest clue. He was just standing there holding it and talking to us in a very whispery way. Perfectly polite, but definitely seemed a bit odd.

Love him to bits...we did have a thread on him but I think it got deleted for lack of posting or else got obliterated when Suri Pillow causes a frenzy of board activity. Me and Mr O are going to see him next Wednesday in Threepenny Opera at Studio 54. Terribly excited, despite the poor reviews of the production. We saw him in Cabaret the second week after we moved to the US and that's how we knew we'd like it here. I don't think he always picks good films but he always does a great job in his roles...the fact that he stole his small but pivotal scene in Eyes Wide Shut away from Clammy McClamster says a lot about him (or a lot about Clammy's lack of acting skill). And if you ever get a chance to listen to his narration in Books on Tape you won't be disappointed. He did a brilliant job with Anil's Ghost by Michael Ondaatje and Christopher Isherwood's Goodbye to Berlin series (which chronicled the carefree cabaret days in Weimar Germany and was the literary basis for Cabaret). His classical acting training shines through. And my favourite is his narration of Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts, a collection of really messed up versions of popular nursery rhymes. We thought that would be good for our kids but, um...no.

I saw him in Cabaret too and yes, he was fantastic. A talented guy for sure.

"Design for Living" as in, the short from MST3K? Or something different? Oxynia, I went with my family to see Threepenny Opera several weeks ago. I had a lot of problems with the production and I don't care for Brecht in general, but it's definitely worth seeing.
