I worked on Man of the House, and can tell you that Tommy Lee Jones is nothing but nice, and not difficult at all. He was a producer on that movie as well, so everything was very efficient and professional, since he didn't want to waste money. He's super nice, has one of the best voices I have ever heard, and the deepest wrinkles I've ever seen in my life. We all had big crushes on him. He also had the best catering I've ever had on a set, and we never had to work longer in a day than predicted. For that I'll love him forever. SQUEEEEE!!!! I LOVE when I'm wrong in a good way!!! I love love love him in the trailer for that movie when the UBER-PERKY cheerleader comes at him with the pageant smile and the high-happy voice and says, "WHERE'S YER HAPPY FAAAAACE?" And with that hang-dog expression of his, but with the same tone she's using, he says, "This IS mah Happy Faaaaaace!" And yes, THE VOICE is one of the things that makes me craaaaazy about him! Purrrrr....

That "happy face" line is hilarious. And that's it. I watched the movie when it came out to see everyone and ugh. I just started fast forwarding to scenes I'd worked on and scenes my friends were in. SOOOOOO bad. Still love him though.
It's funny that a TLJ/Hartnett project was brought up. I don't think Hartnett has anything to do with it, but Tommy has been shopping around some family movie set in San Antonio about a father/son relationship forever. I guess he gave up because I have never heard anything about since I guess 2002.

Those were good, but you forgot THE Oscar performance that year that he beat out: Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List. Sorry, but Tommy Lee Jones totally has Fiennes' Oscar and that was an injustice five times worse than Gwyneth beating out Cate Blanchett. Ralph Fiennes' performance was so beyond any other work any other actor had done that year, it was almost not on the same planet.

I wonder if he cultivates that "difficult" image to some extent because it keeps people (like reporters and such) off his back? Of course, his glare alone would be enough to keep most people at bay...

I wouldn't be surprised if he was difficult for reporters and whatnot, but around a bunch of giggly girls fawning over him? He was awesome. He was a real smartass to the guys too, but in a really joking manner. I'm sure it helps that he was doing what he loved when I met him. I can't imagine anyone loves getting interviewed and having to answer the same questions over and over, so I'm sure that could bring out a different side of him.
Oh yeah, and he smelled good. THAT was the big reason we all had giddy crushes on him.

Love him. Three Buriels was brilliant. Brilliant acting ,brilliant writing, brilliant directing. Best movie I've seen in years. Did I mention it was brilliant? Tommy Lee Jones is one of those rare birds that can do it all.

I teach 8th grade English (I know, I know) and one of the books I teach is April Morning, which no one has ever heard of before. Hallmark Hall of Fame made a tv movie of it in 1988 (or thereabouts) and TLJ plays the main character's father, Moses. Unfortunately, the main character is played by Mr. Hilary Swank, Chad Lowe, and he is not a good actor, so the film is pretty bad. I don't show it in my classes anymore because the kids just giggled through the entire thing. Anyway, Jones is good in it, but he is supposed to be playing a Lexington minuteman during the outbreak of the American Revolution and he still has a very noticeable Texas twang.

You guys should hunt around on the internet for clips of him on One Life to Live. I did a project a few years ago that required watching endless old soaps, and one day at the Musuem of Television and Radio in New York, I got quite the suprise when I saw a very young TLJ appear on my screen.
Watching the clips, I would not have said that he was a great actor, but even then there was something about him that most of his castmates didn't have. I truly believe he is one of those people that have gotten better with time, because that essence sits better on him now.
