While trapped in an airplane for six hours yesterday, I watched the new "Amy" documentary. So mad at what a waste her death was and that she couldn't get her shit together. Fucking Blake Incarcerated....

It's very hard to overcome one mental illness, let alone multiple on top of addiction issues. That's a lot to deal with. It sucks that we don't understand how those things work as well as we should, so it's hard to get effective help (let alone overcoming how some diseases make you not want to get help or make you feel you need to hide the symptoms).

Fucking Blake Incarcerated.... Someone on another message board once posted something like, "I know Amy was grown and made her own decisions, but f___ Blake!" So true.

I've been thinking about Amy Winehouse a lot lately because of Adele. They both came on the scene around the same time and Adele has just put another album out that I haven't stopped listening to since last Friday. Makes me sad that we will never get new music from Amy or see how she would've grown as an artist. I haven't watched the movie yet. I don't know if I'll ever watch it.

While I do get the anger directed at Blake I've never quite understood vitriol directed solely at him, for one reason, her father. Watching the documentary (it is good, I liked the clips from many of her younger performances that I had never seen before) I really really got pi$$ed off at her father more than anyone.
It seemed clear she worshipped him, and he was the one pushing her to keep touring, he was the one who said she didn't need rehab. There is one scene where she is finally away from it all(in the Bahamas? something like that) and she wants to have quiet, no cameras. Her dad tells her he wants to come visit her, she is clearly excited... but what does he do- he brings a whole camera crew. You can see how devestated she is, and at the same time she is still trying to sooth him! When she is at her worst, and even her body guards, her friends, even her manager is like: Ok- we need to stop with the tour... it's her dad who seems to be pushing it all. She can barely stand up, and he is saying : "she just has a few more commitments, then she can take a break".
That as the saddest part... it seemed like she tried her whole life to get her daddy's love (and I would even guess this was extended through her relationship with Blake), and the whole time he was really fanning the flames of her demise.

Yeah, there are always enablers or drama addicts around when there is an addict. In this situation, it was obviously a variety of people -- and she had a lot of issues to overcome.
Her dad was pissed when the movie came out. He still sees Amy's issues as 100 percent Blake's fault when it's clear that his divorce and behavior toward her played a major part in how her coping skills played out as addiction. Blake was an addict. So was Amy. Of course they shared drugs and behaviors.
He also was freeloading off her career, and trying to break into the music industry with his own career. He was recording an album, and preparing to perform in America when she died.

I remember reading a quote from Amy's father after her death. He seemed to acknowledge how his philandering and subsequent divorce from Amy's mother had affected Amy. I got impression he felt bad.
