Health magazine interview with Kelly Preston: LINK The article states that Jett was diagnosed with autism, but Kelly never explicitly says this and seems to still be hung on on the 'seizures as a result of toxins' angle. The website (or rather one measly page) for the Jett Travolta foundation doesn't mention autism either, though some of the disabilities specified are linked to autism. Have Kelly and JT seriously never said the word? The Charitable Foundation may also use its resources, and make grants, for such other charitable, literary and educational purposes as the Charitable Foundation determines from time to time. The assets of the Charitable Foundation shall be held and administered by the Charitable Foundation exclusively for such purposes. Annual distributions of income and/or principal shall be paid, applied, used and/or distributed in furtherance of one or more of these purposes in such amounts and proportions as the Charitable Foundation shall determine. In other words, they can do whatever they damn well please with the money you donate. Kelly and JT are both very likeable and seem to be very devoted parents. Those pictures of Jett are heartbreaking. If only they could just say the word. With their popularity and wealth the Travoltas could do so much to help. Instead we are stuck left Jenny McCarthy. Ugh.

IIRC, John said that Jett had autism on the stand during that blackmail case in the Bahamas shortly after Jett's death. That is the only time that I'm aware of either Kelly or John saying the word.
Also, depending on which study you read, anywhere from 20 to 50% of children with autism will experience some type of seizure disorder or epilepsy at some point. My niece suffered petit mal seizures that were easily controlled with medication, and we are watching ds3 carefully for any signs of similar issues.
I don't really know how I feel about this. I believe that some children are born with a tendency toward autism, and those who manifest it later in childhood experienced a "trigger" of some sort (trauma, exposure to chemicals, etc.) that brought it to the forefront. Maybe that's what happened to Jett, but the whole "these awful chemicals cause autism" isn't quite on point--they can trigger autism, but they don't cause it. JMO--YMMV.

They will use it to fund Church of $cientology programs. I haven't ever seen John Travolta involved in any charitable cause that was not a $cientology front, including his 9/11 and Haiti work.

What causes autism is a riddle that may never be solved. I just wish the Travoltas would simply talk about their experiences raising a child like Jett and support research into treatment. It seems to me that they aren't truly acknowledging that Jett was autistic. (except under oath apparently).

Unfortunately, I don't think they can say anything publicly. Scientology claims that all illness is in your head, and once you start going "Clear" you can rid yourself of these things. This is why Tom Cruise claimed in that interview with Diane Sawyer that he doesn't get sinus infections anymore and claimed in the Matt Lauer interview that there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance (i.e., mental illness), and the reason why Jenna Elfman said that AIDS is just a state of mind.
If the Travoltas have a kid that has a disorder like Autism and they can't magic it away with Scientology, then that reflects poorly on them. And Scientology likes to hold up celebrities as ideal Scientologists - look at Tom Cruise and John Travolta! Look how amazing and rich and successful they are! You can be that way too if you stick with Scientology! There's just no way that they can publicly admit that their son had a chronic problem that Scientology couldn't cure, especially once that's mental/neurologically based. So since it was clear from photos of him that something was wrong with Jett, we get the "it was carpet chemicals" story. At least that's basically saying "he was poisoned" versus "he has a disorder" and makes it sound more like something Scientology couldn't have fixed. I doubt they ever would have admitted to a seizure disorder if Jett hadn't died as a result of a seizure.
It really is too bad. They could do some good in Jett's name, but I'm willing to bet that any money donated to that foundation will probably go straight back to the clams.

That's true.
Autism has been around for centuries. It usually manifest itself around age 3 and definitely by school age, when it becomes more obvious. It is also becoming a disorder that is over diagnosed, much like ADD/ADHD.
With that said, I think Scientologists will have a field day on this disorder. They can say well the child was talking at two but not at three. How can that be if it is not something that can be changed?
In addition, they can easily stumble upon the misdiagnosed child, who suddenly turns normal, and declare the healing all due to the religion.

For all those convinced it would be a cold day in hell before John and Kelly publicly acknowledged Jett's autism because it would indicate that Scientology had failed them: Hell just froze over

I just read somewhere the other day that Kelly had a son with Kevin Gage who is severely handicapped and being cared for in Hawaii by her parents. The writer stated that Kelly is passing Fragile X syndrome along to her male children. (Once I did a little Googling, I found all kinds of stories saying the same thing.) If that's true, I can only imagine what kind of torment the "Church" has been inflicting on her all these years -- or, because she's a celebrity, does the Church find a way around telling her it's her fault as they would if she were some mere plebe?
