I'd be so disappointed if there were any serious dirt on him (like of Chris Brown/Bill Cosby/Woody Allen, etc levels). Yes! It was with serious trepidation I had to consider whether or not to read this short thread. I was afraid there'd be dirt because this really is the place where crushes go to die and I want my Tom Hanks love to continue unabated. I would flat out refuse to believe it, if any ever came out.

Tom Hanks seems to know he's got it pretty good in life. And he works hard. There is no sense of entitlement or "poor me" like you see with Russell Crowe or Sean Penn, etc. With a lot of Hollywood jerks, they are rich and lauded but they still complain constantly about fame, their "art," their ex wives. They're resentful of their fame Hanks really is an "Everyman" who works hard and benefited from good choices and luck. And he knows this.

I wonder if part of it is because he was never the hot guy. I'm sure he had women throw themselves at him, but he didn't have the cool dudeness of Penn or the hubba hubba gladiator of Crowe.
Since Hanks was never Sexiest Man Alive or People's Most Beautiful (maybe he was when he was younger) it wouldn't have inflated his ego as someone whose career is half built on their looks.

He is kind of a male Meryl Streep- goes to work, does the job and then goes home and woodworks or reads a book or plays with the kids and has this really nice life that he likes. Crowe and Penn come off like posers with the whole "I am a tortured artiste" shtick who want the benefits of fame without the downsides and then whine publically about them.

Tom Hanks is the new version of Jimmy Stewart and/or Andy Griffith. He's a beloved icon. A legend. And universally accepted as a good guy. Any possible dirt that is revealed about him would absolutely gut me, and destroy my faith in humanity. He is also probably the only celeb that I would let watch my hypothetical children. Eta: YAY! Tom Hanks got me my 10 year ribbon!

My friend and then roommate was an extra on the set of That Thing You Do!, and I go to visit the downtown L.A. set where they filmed the first competition scenes in the movie. Despite it being late in the evening, he was energetic and friendly and moving along to get everyone home at a relatively decent hour.
I did not get to meet him, but Liv Tyler, (the hilarious) Steve Zahn, Tom Everett Scott and (the very pretty) Jonathan Schaech all walked right past me as I stood just off stage. 90's Up and Coming Celebrity Points!!!

High court hears Tom Hanks' high-end home disputeIt's not majorly bad and I can't find a link to support it, but at the beginning of this dispute there was an article in my local (Idaho) paper where the contractor accused Tom Hanks of having armed security guards shadow him and the house inspector in an attempt to intimidate them.

Tom Hanks appears in the new Carly Rae Jepsen video. Which is awesome.

OT: The book she's reading, Astonish Me, is fabulous. It's about a former ballet dancer and the choices she makes. Life imitating art? /OT On topic: Somewhere in the dusty attics of the Intarwebs, there's a blurb about Tom getting very familiar with some unknown woman in a restaurant bathroom. Other than that, I haven't heard nor read much that's he's ever been a jerk. I think his acting, particularly when he's playing a not-so-good guy, is awesome. He was fantastic in A League of Their Own: some of his best work ever.
