He looks young and she looks old so I guess I'm not as squicked out as I should be.
I think this is true. She's probably mature beyond her years and he's probably in an arrested state of development since Hollywood can mature you and stunt your growth at the same time so it probably all works out in the end.
I do think, in the real world, that if, say, a 30 year old business man with a full-fledged career was going after an 18 year old just out of high school.....well, then that would definitely be weird. Life experiences, in that case, are probably too far apart so any attraction a 30 year old man would have for an 18 year old would seem kind of skeevy.
I think previously age differences were probably not frowned upon because life experiences were probably not that radically far apart even if a big age gap was separating two companions. But what with college, getting a job, getting a full career, moving out on your own, and all the different stages of life there are now to acquire, it does seem stranger nowadays to fall for someone who hasn't had equivalent life experiences.

I just wrote something similar on TWOP, but why does everyone think Hayden is mature beyond her years just because she's been in show business a long time? Child stars are not known for their maturity. If anything, I'd think she'd be less mature than the average 18 year old. She's always seemed very giggly and teenagerish whenever I've seen her interviewed or in pictures.
Also, I don't think she looks older than 18, I think she looks much younger, like she could play a junior high schooler. She still has her baby fat, for crying out loud! She's very young-looking.

I don't know what she's like now, but I did get a wise-beyond-her-years vibe from when she was on Guiding Light. Some of her performances seemed like they could only have come from someone who was a bit more mature than the average kid.
Of course things could be different now.
I think that is true too.
I just kind of have the feeling that she's probably matured to a certain point and he's probably STOPPED maturing since Hollywood can warp you like that so, in the end, perhaps they're on an even playing field.
I do think Milo is probably more immature than she is mature, but there was something about her when she was a kid that seemed somewhat spooky. Whether she has that preternatural quality still I'm not sure, but it was kind of haunting when she was younger.
She does not look particularly old (though I don't think she looks super duper young either), but he certainly does not look 30. Maybe in real life he does, but I remember him from American Dreams and he looked like a kid on that show. A skeevy kid, but a kid nonetheless.
Edited to add:
Having said that, I do often wonder why these young, good-looking girls would want to date "older" men. With all the cute little gentlemanly fellows in their own age bracket from those Harry Potter movies running around, I can't imagine why they'd want to waste their time with "old" guys that probably have some baggage.

Eh, probably because they think they MUST be grown-up and mature if they can attract a "mature" man (when in reality it usually means the older guy is immature or or creepy in some way).
I like Hayden, I love Milo and together I love the chemistry they have on Heroes but if they're actually dating, it's...ew. It just makes me wonder what's wrong with Milo.

I've never watched Heroes so I can't talk about how she comes off there, but I have seen some other stuff she's been in. And I do think she comes off as mature for her age in her work, but I just chalk that up to competent acting (not excellent the way many people see her, but she's not terrible or anything). In any case, I find that most teenagers end up looking mature once they put away the flighty, giggly personalities. But in interviews, yeesh. (She made that obnoxious comment about being smarter than 99% of brunettes -- sorry, I know that everyone can have their dumb moments, but that one comment made me think that my little pinky is smarter than she is.) And I know the popular sentiment is that since she's worked and accomplished more than most teenagers, she must be mature, but I don't know how well that holds up since it's in an industry that spoils and pampers starlets like her (for the duration of their shelf life, that is). Hollywood doesn't foster or encourage maturity.

Eww, she has hips! Like, grody to the max. She looks great in those pics. Milo is cute and all, but if I were Hayden's age and a successful actress, I'd be sending Michael Cera little love letters every day. Just sayin'.

I once saw her on Letterman and she seemed more mature than Natalie Portman who is 26 and has a Harvard degree. I didn't get much of a gigglish-ultra-annoying-let's-be-flirtatious-because-that's-what-you-do-on-Letterman-Katie-Holmes kind of vibe.
Letterman didn't seem to like Hayden at all though.
At times it seemed like he was making fun of her; however, I didn't really understand why.
I hope she grows a neck one of these days. If she doesn't grow one, I think she's going to be a weird looking 30 year old.

I'd take her hips any day. She looks good in that bikini. The girl isn't going to be a stick figure, and I like that she hasn't given in to that fad yet.

I hope she grows a neck one of these days. If she doesn't grow one, I think she's going to be a weird looking 30 year old. I think she's weird-looking now. I don't think she's that pretty. Very cute in a little girl type of way but that's about it. I think her looks will be a huge limitation in her career if she ever wants to get beyond high-school cheerleader roles. She just doesn't have a versatile look and based on her face and body type (and the fact that she's already 18 (or whatever) and theoretically fully developed), I don't think she will ever outgrow it. Anyway, I'm sick of seeing her in the tabloids. Too much fame for very little career output. Plus I don't think she's nearly hot or interesting enough to garner all this attention. Her publicist is working overtime and is probably tipping the paps on her whereabouts, which makes me think she's a massive fame ho like all the rest.
