Yeah, it's really unfortunate Masako married him. I think she believed Naruhito when he said she'd be able to keep working diplomatically, and maybe he believed he had more clout than he actually possessed, or he was deluding himself.

I think he was deluding himself. I think he thought they would be the modern monarchy, but the JHA has too much power. I feel for both of them. He loves her and they destroyed her. I was happy to see her out and thrilled to hear about the close friendship she has with the Dutch royal family, especially Maxima.

When they visited the Netherlands, you could see how much she blossomed. She was smiling far more and generally more relaxed. Not surprising considering they're literally free from the stifling IHA protocol and pressure.

Emperor Akihito considering stepping down. If true, that means her husband will be Emperor and maybe he can get things changed so their daughter is next in line instead of his nephew. Not holding my breath on that though.
