No, he hasn't passed on, but I read this article that his son did an interview for and it just made me sad. I feel so bad for his family and the loss of Ann Bancroft. *sniff*

Oh that is so sad. You know, as much as I miss my Grandfather ( Pop Pop), I am reminded that the men tend to have a harder time with the loss of their long time wife than the women do. I believe that if my Grandma died first, Pop would have followed shortly thereafter. As it stands now, it is almost ten years since he died and my 93 year old Grandma is going strong although she misses him terribly.

Anyway, my heart breaks for Mr. Brooks.

K. Barrett -- I've long held the same feeling that many men are left completely at sea when a long-time spouse passes on. So I'll bet he's in bitter shape at this point, what with losing her and a son. I recall my grandparents (who are both gone at this point) carrying on these matter-of-fact discussions about which one of them should "go" first. I recall that they ultimately decided he should "go" first because he'd be pretty helpless without her. That's how it happened, too.

I was astonished when I realized how long MB and AB were together -- Since 1964 (I believe) until her death a couple years ago. Because, really, how often do you see that in Hollywood?

I don't think his son died; I think Spinderella was saying that the son wrote the article she was linking to. That said, Mr. Brooks has my sympathies -- he and Miss Bancroft were such a great couple, and it's sad to see longtime spouses sundered by death.

I love Mel Brooks and I'm just so sad for him.
My 3-year old son loves him too because of Jakers the Adventure of Piggly Winks (he plays a sheep). I love to watch that show as well... he's awesome.

Hoo Lord, for a minute I thought you were telling me he had lost a wife AND a son...

Now that my awesome reading comprehension has kicked in, that was such a sweet article. Clearly written with such affection and love, but not mawkish. Poor Mel.

You're not the only one; I read "that his son just did" as "that his son just died" as well.

What a sweet article. It's making me cry just bringing back memories of how my mother-in-law was for years after my father-in-law passed.

The article was so heartfelt & sweet. Poor Mel Brooks - I could really see my grandparents reacting in the same way if they lost the other.
