*I love him* [small, teeny, tiny voice] I think his music is infectious, unpretentious and fun. I am so averse to popular music that I only get into a newer artist once every few years and Mika fills that spot. Before that it was Keane, and before that Rufus Wainwright. The "why won't he just admit he's gay?" thing doesn't bother me; in fact, good for him. That's his business, and I think the fact that he IS gay is very clearly implied, and I think the more we hear him say "It's no big deal, I am what I do", the better. I can't wait until his album comes out here in the US---which I THINK is in a few days? EEK!

I see your point, but it's not like he's Clay Aiken who would possibly be in danger of losing a significant portion of his fan base(conservative housewives who have delusional fantasies about his heterosexuality) if he came out; Mika's music and image are largely queer-centric anyway. If you don't want it to be a big deal, don't make it one; but at least be man enough to be out with the rest of us who live as openly gay in the 'real' world every day, for better or worse. I feel like I should like him, though. I am a fan of melodic pop after all, but that voice, that falsetto...just not my cup of tea. I'm glad I'm not the only one here who's not a fan.

With all due respect to you, you have no idea what his managers and PR people are advising him in regard to his image. My best friend (a young, sexy, beautiful masculine man) is on the verge of a huge film/TV career and he is being told from all sides that his homosexuality cannot be discussed. And so you have a choice (and believe me, I think it is an absurd and horrifying choice to HAVE to make) --you either choose your career or you choose to be out and proud and suffer in your career. Unfortunately, we have not made enough progress for a big star to be out and embraced by America. Look at the celebrities who have come out so far: Doogie, Lance Bass, the dude from Grey's Anatomy whose name I don't even know, these guys aren't exactly hot items in celebrity-land or sex symbols at the moment. Rufus Wainwright's career may have been much different had he been straight, he himself has said this (they could have really banked on his good looks, for one), the Scissor Sisters have never achieved any real US success, even Rupert Everett, who's a big old hag at this point, has said his roles have dried up since he came out. I am not at all impying that this is "right" or "good", but it is the way it is and it sucks. And now, before I get a smackdown from the mods.... As we know, Mika is being primed right now to make a huge splash in America. I am thinking that, much like the Scissor Sisters and Robbie Williams, this type of music won't be embraced by Americans, so none of this will matter anyway! I am buying his CD this week!!! ;D ETA: It seems like I'M in the minority for liking him, actually! Dang, I think I'm the only one!

I saw his "Grace Kelly" video when I was in Italy a few weeks ago. I hadn't heard of him before. It was fun at first, but got kind of annoying after a while. I don't like falsetto singers.

Ew. That video was not good. Falsetto always sounds stupid and forced to me. No sir, I will not love you.

If he's not gay then he's possesses the GGMG (Great Gay Man Gene)
Once again I am so tired of these gay Brits trying to be coy about their sexuality (Robbie Williams - I'm talking about you too).
These whores will do anything to try to crack the US market by suppressing their natural self in order to make a dollar over here.
Their advisors have warned them that the US audience will not even look at them if they are perceived to be gay (Will Young)
And if your camp (Russell Brand) and all your talent is is to poster in front of a camera (fill in with any British Comedian here); we have no use for you as well.
Show us some damn talent will ya.
I blame Simon Cowell for this.

I'm not talking about the pressure to remain closeted for performers who could pass for heterosexual (though I have my opinions on that, it is another topic). No one is gonna mistake Mika for straight. Doesn't he have a song about a man leaving his wife for another man? His whole image, and even his music, is pretty flamboyant, so it just seems outright silly to remain closeted, IMO. It's like if Rupaul had tried to be coy about his sexuality when he hit it big with "Supermodel". That would have just been stupid.

I don't mind him. The song is catchy, I'm sure it'll wear out eventually. lol.

I really like him and his album. It's catchy and happy and what's more I don't need to worry about letting my ten-year-old listen to it (which is having to become a priority these days considering the sort of language used in songs these days [/rant]) - PLUS the falsetto means my kid can actually sing along to it!!

I have been playing "Grace Kelly" non-stop. It just makes me so damn happy. I've had to make myself stop listening to it so much, because it's one of those songs that I will get soooo sick of hearing. But for now, I love it.
