They are probably my favorite band ever. Yeah, I know that sounds fan girly, but I am fan girly about them. He died two days after my birthday. I remember hearing that his uncle found him after becoming worried since he hadn't seen him in a couple weeks. A few years later, when Jerry was on Cribs, he had taken in Layne's cat. That makes it sadder yet, that the poor kitty when 1-2 weeks without an owner/food/water. They AIC guys have always seemed like very nice people, even when the majority of their peers seemed like total asshats.

I remember that Headbangers Ball, such a funny episode. Sean Kinney running around in a Speedo!

My only comment is that my real name sounds a lot like Alice in Chains so people call me that and it annoys the hell out of me. Although, I guess it's better than having a name like Molly Hatchet.

I was so happy to see this thread - I LOVE Alice in Chains and Layne Stanley. I was so sad when Layne died...more so than with Cobain (maybe unfair to compare them, but I just wasn't into Nirvana and they got all the attention).
Do you guys remember Mad Season? If I recall correctly, it was Layne, someone from Pearl Jam and I don't remember who else...I downloaded some of their stuff the other night. Really good music.

Do you guys remember Mad Season? If I recall correctly, it was Layne, someone from Pearl Jam and I don't remember who else...I downloaded some of their stuff the other night. Really good music. Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, Barrett Martin from the Screaming Trees, and John Baker Saunders from The Walkabouts. And, yeah, they were awesome. I finally got my CD replaced and uploaded into iTunes and it's great. For all the talk about different bands/singers sounding like AIC/Staley, there's one person that could really sound almost exactly like him and that was AIC's guitarist, Jerry Cantrell - I'm thinking mainly of the song Psychotic Break from his solo CD, Degradation Trip. There are other parts of songs that sound like Staley in that album [like in Bargain Basement Howard Hughes and Spiderbite], which is actually weirder because he would switch back to sounding like, you know, himself after a few verses of Staley-ish vocals. ETA: Even though I don't like Staind, I do like that their lead singer is always talking about how big an influence Staley [and AIC] was on him and how he felt that Layne was never really properly commemorated - he wrote a tribute song to Staley that appeared in one of Staind's albums.

I tried to find the Headbanger's Ball "Speedo" episode and couldn't. But in my search I found another AIC/ Layne moment that was funny and kinda sweet. Much better times for them.
