I'm so sorry to hear about this one. . . he was such an interesting and talented writer. His books really opened my perspective when I first got ahold of them in junior high. He will be missed.

I wrote a research paper on his books during my junior year of high school. Brilliant, brilliant man.
Breakfast of Champions, Slaughterhouse Five, and Cat's Cradle are still some of my favorite books. This makes me so sad.
"So it goes."

One of my favorite books was Galapogos... I know, not many liked it but it always reminds me of my dad. And... well, I love Blue Footed Boobies! Those damn birds and their strange name! So it goes....

I've never read any of his books although a teenage friend of the family gave me Slaughterhouse Five for my birthday, so I do plan to at some point. Sadly, one of the few things that I associate with him is that fake commencement speech that was running around via email supposedly by him that then got made into a techno song. I did however like his segment on The Daily Show awhile back. Giraffes, hippopotami and the clap R.I.P. I promise to be kind.

I loved his cameo in Back to School. It was just so silly/fun that he was hired to write a paper for Rodney Dangerfield's rich character only to have that character told by his professor, "You obviously know nothing about Kurt Vonnegut!"

So it goes.... I never read Galapagos, but I too really love some of the "not classic" Vonnegut books - namely Hocus Pocus and The Sirens of Titan.

RIP Kurt.
I've never read Slaugtherhouse Five (I know!) but I absolutely loved Bluebeard and God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater. Such a strange blend of cynicism and optimism, and so moving.

What's a good first book for someone (me) who hasn't read any Vonnegut?
