It doesn't have the punch of a full novel, but you could try the short story EPICAC for starters. |

Player Piano, his first novel. I recommend that one. I second this. It's a good introduction to what his books are all about, while not quite as...out there...as some of his later stuff. For some people it can be an acquired taste, I guess. I highly recommend Cat's Cradle, too. |
