Anyone else completely perplexed at how insanely androgynous Bill Kaulitz, the singer, in Tokio Hotel is? I find it totally bizarr and yet oddly fascinating. When I first saw images of him I was 100% sure he was a girl. Pic 2, Pic 4 , Pic 5 , Pic 6 , pic 8 Pic 9 , I never seen anyone more naturally androgynous person. He doesn’t come off as having stereotypical “gay mannerisms” (no offence meant to gay people) such as high wrists etc, he just comes off as girlish, but oddly enough in a completely natural way. He started wearing makeup when he was only 11 years old and he actually went to school like that everyday. Wonder how bullied and teased he must have been? He is still just a kid though (he’s 17) so I assume as he gets older he may get a bit more masculine looking, but age certainly doesn’t explain it all because he has an a identical twin, Tom who isn’t particularly androgynous (and also is a total man-slut, wheareas bill comes off as not being interested in girls or boys for that matter). They seem to have different personalities, and totally different styles . But removing makeup, piercing, tattoos and hair they look the same. Of course, he also has a face that make any top model envious. He’d probably would win next American Top model if he’d participate. ;D He was also mentioned by one of the world’s leading plastic surgeon as having the most perfect nose and profile in the world. A little more chubby faced 16 year old Bill in video for Rette Mich, from first album and Spring Nicht- their latest single

I had been aware of them for several months before I finally realized that a) that was a man, and b) they were an actual band.

Oh my God. Are you saying that people outside of Germany are actually aware of Tokio Hotel?! Please God, no. Isn't it bad enough that we're the country where the Hoff had some actual musical success (or any success at all)?

Aww, now you should be proud to be German (not for the Hoff stuff though, that you should hide in embarrassment for). ;D Tokio Hotel are the best selling band from Germany (who sings in German) ever in France. Their latest album has sold gold and platinum in France, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and some other countres. They are also starting to become known in Spain and here in Scandinavia etc. Record companies in USA (Interscope) and UK have recently signed them up too and will release their Cd's there later this year. i heard that one of the guys at Interscope said that if anyone was born to be a superstar it's bill Kaulitz. It will be interesting to see what will happen when they release their english CD, cause I am not sure the bible belt America can handle this. Prolly say Kaulitz is a spawn of Satan. Hee

*shudders*
I have a livejournal, and my friends list is basically all Tokio Hotel stuff. It freaks me out. I need to download a song just to see what the hell the fuss is about.

Maybe timely. I was JUST reading a piece over at MSNBC.com about some documentary about transgendered teens. Teens who knew early on that they were "in the wrong body", and who, at a relatively early age (teens is pretty early!) started dressing the opposite sex. He reminds me of that article.

I've seen some interesting documentaries on Tv about gender confusion in kids. There was a mom who was talking about how her 3 year old son tried to cut his peepee off with ascissor once and when she stopped him he started crying saying it shouldn't be there. That kid later turned oyt to have much more female chromosomes/hormones or whatever than male even though his sexual reproduction organs were male. However, I don't think that's the case with Bill Kaulitz, since he has an twin who is not a fraternal twin but an identical one. Shouldn't then the twin be the same? Or when the egg split up in the womb did one of the twins manage to get all the testosterone and one almost none? It's good food for thinking.

They get mentioned all the time over at ONTD but I had never heard of them before. I assumed they would at least have a hint of irony considering that their lead singer looks like, well, a very pretty girl, but man, after watching that YouTube clip, they seem to take themselves awfully seriously. Sorry Tokio Hotel, I can't really relate to the pain and emo-ness of a dude who rocks more eyeshadow than I do.
