It sounds to me like a lot of the hold up with the album had to do with her split from PT Anderson. He's all buddies with Jon Brion, and it sounds like disagreements between Fiona and Brion help up the release, and now Brion is no longer the credited producer on the album, and Fiona and Brion both say the other one leaked the tracks last year. I always knew PT was a dick. He dumped his girlfriend of like 7 years after he got some acclaim to get with Fiona. Talented as all hell, but a dick.

I'm surprised the album is going to be released in any form. I gave up hope long ago.

However, it does make me feel better that it was Fiona Apple holding it up rather than Sony. It seems to be her pattern. "When The Pawn...." was delayed at first and well worth the wait.

Between this and Once and Again Season 2 finally being released, I'm going to be spending a lot of money.

Her whole album is now on her MySpace account. It's really quite different than the leaked version. I was actually prepared to not like it. I really liked the leak, in all its weirdness and eclectic-ness. This one is really...uh...funky, but very good as well. It's hard for me to choose a preference, so instead I'll be happy with both. I don't think it's as good as When The Pawn, but I just think the songs are so lyrically brilliant on that album that it would be hard for anything to compare. I'm glad to see the album coming out, and I hope she gets good sales. Her fans are really devoted, but I'm afraid she'll alienate some by "selling out" by using Mike Elizondo as a producer. It's really cool to me though, that When the Pawn was nothing like Tidal and Extraordinary Machine is nothing like either of her previous two albums. I love when an artist shows variety rather than reproducing the same stuff over and over.
