Has died. From MSNBC. Charles Nelson Reilly, the Tony Award winner who later became known for his ribald appearances on the “Tonight Show” and various game shows, has died. He was 76.
Reilly died Sunday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia, his partner, Patrick Hughes, told the New York Times.
Reilly began his career in New York City, taking acting classes at a studio with Steve McQueen, Geraldine Page and Hal Holbrook. In 1962, he appeared on Broadway as Bud Frump in the original Broadway production of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” The role won Reilly a Tony Award.

I really hate to admit this but I thought he'd died years ago. I don't mean this out of disrespect, it's just that I hadn't heard anything about him for a very long time, as in about 20 years, I'd think.

Me, too. Didn't he also do a voice for a cartoon? I should go check IMDb.
RIP

That's exactly what I thought, too. Gotta dig up my Jose Chung episodes of Millennium tonight. Sniff.

Am I misremembering here: wasn't he on H.R. PufNstuff or one of those weird, trippy half-puppet things in the early 70s or late 60s?
Also, I always got the impression that he was scary-smart underneath the funny.

And one of those weird, trippy half-puppet shows may be what I really was thinking of. God, H.R. PuffNstuff gave me the willies, what with the prematurely aging Jack whatshisface from the movie Oliver!) bouncing around. Creepy stuff.

I already posted this over on the Death Pool thread, but CNR was a very big fan and scholar of opera and classical music. He had a deep interest in and knowledge of a broad range of performing arts.
I remember watching him on Pufnstuf and on Match Game and Hollywood Squares and thinking he was the most unique man I'd ever seen in my life. He was probably the first gay man I ever saw and I believe his personality, wit, and intelligence were invaluable in opening the doors to openly gay performers on U.S. television.

I never knew who he was until I started watching the repeats of Match Game on the Game Show Network...he was hilarious and very, very snarky. He would have made a great Greecie. RIP, funny man.
