His episodes on The X-Files and Millennium were among the best in the series; him plus a Darin Morgan script was just made of win. I have to chime in that I was also a sheltered kid who didn't quite get that CNR, et al were gay, but did notice that he was a man who was a lot more exuberant and snarky than the average guy. In the Millenium episode, they included some Lidsville footage, as part of Jose Chung's film career, (how meta)! That episode was a massive piss-take on $cientology, back in the days before it was cool.
