The surrogate is liable because she is listed on the baby's birth certificate as a noncustodial parent. I wonder why the surrogate allowed her name to be listed on the birth certificate in the first place. The video linked says that the surrogate was put on the birth certificate because there was no other mother present. That girl got boned. And Sherri Shepherd is a complete POS. God. Damn.

She certainly did. This child is Sherri and Lamar's responsibility. It was their desire that brought him into the world, regardless of who did the birthing. If Sherri has to pay child support for 18+ years because she hooked up with a con artist, well then too bad. It happens. It's certainly not her son's fault.

What a mess.
So, Lamar files for divorce and requests sole custody before the child is even born. He's contesting their prenup. Sherri has reportedly offered him a lump sum of $100,000 and $3,000 a month child support. He declined that, wants more, is not working and filed for assistance with the state.
I feel badly for that little baby boy. He's nothing more than a paycheck for his leech of a father.

If Sherri signed a contract to adopt the child, then even if she doesn't, she should still have to pay child support, provide health insurance, and establish a college fund. She should be sending Lamar $3,000 a month child support and letting the lawyers hammer out everything else, instead of leaving the poor kid to survive with his deadbeat dad.

I think that everyone involved surrendering parental rights and allowing the child to be adopted would be in his best interests. Fat chance, though, as long as Sally thinks he'll get a payout.

Any contract can be invalidated if there is fraud involved, which is what happened with Sherri. It's bad for the baby, but there really is no one to blame but his father. And that just makes it worse. Greed does things to people...

Sherri could be putting child support in escrow for all we know. Notice she's not commenting on anything; Lamar has been the one flapping his gums. Lamar's not working and filing for public assistance instead? He's playing right into a certain negative stereotype of people who receive public assistance. Shame on him for that too.

Any contract can be invalidated if there is fraud involved, which is what happened with Sherri. Has this been proven or is it according to Sherri? I realize that legally Sherri may end up not being responsible, but morally, I think she is (which why I'd never make it as a lawyer). If she had not agreed to having this baby through a surrogate, the baby would not have been conceived. Men who use a condom or have sex with someone who swears they can't get pregnant are still liable for child support if a baby is conceived, I think this is kind of the same issue. Sherri could be putting child support in escrow for all we know. Notice she's not commenting on anything; Lamar has been the one flapping his gums. You're right, although escrow does nothing to help the baby right now.

Judge ordered her name added to the baby's birth certificate. Of course, that sad sack of an ex-husband is happy. TMZIf she relinquished her parental rights, would she still be responsible for child support? Ugh...that poor baby.

Well there is no way in hell Lamar will let her relinquish her rights now she's been deemed the mother. Cue him rushing off to file for child support in 3,2,1....
