She recently fired her mom as her manager. Not sure what that has to do with this.

I think she's right to sue Duane Reade. (Pains me to say it.) They're using her picture for promotional purposes. She asked them to take it down and they didn't.

Sigh, Katherine is one of those people that I like on-screen and her behavior off-screen is killing that like. But, she does have a point with Duane Reade. They shouldn't be able to use her pic for promo purposes without her permission.
She is starring in a TV pilot for NBC that I hope gets picked up. It sounds interesting. I just hope she can keep her diva behavior under control long enough to have an actual comeback.

$6M? Really, Katherine? Did she send a C&D or did she jump immediately to a lawsuit? Seems she's taken a page out of Lindsay's playbook. This reads like a quick money grab. It'll probably work, but not anywhere near the amount she's requesting.

6 years ago her response would have been a C&D. I wonder what kind of settlement is realistic in such a case. $25,000?, $100,000? Though her representation of her career is completely over the top, I guess you have to do whatever it takes to bring the money in. At least it won't be spent on drugs, alcohol and rehab stints as in Lohan's case.
Firing her mother was a good move. Even if just for the PR factor (I'm sure her mother still advises her), it will probably do more to help her get work than a string of mea culpa interviews.

My BIL is a hot shot LA lawyer and when I've gone to him for legal advice he always hits first with a letter threatening to sue for (and I quote) "a million zillion dollars."
The idea is not to get 6 mill, it's to make them take the ad/tweet/Instagram/whatever it is down, and that the lawyer isn't mucking around.
I don't think Heigl has anything to do with the amount, that's lawyer talk, and I think the C&D is probably in the 6 mil suit, "cease and desist or we sue for million zillion dollars."
To reiterate, her lawyer came up with the amount, drafted the lawsuit, wrote that she is a recognizable celebrity whose image has value, and their using that image as advertisement is tantamount to stealing from her.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold it against KH for the language used to describe her career either. It's part of the game plan to exaggerate her worth.

The tweet was put up 3 weeks ago. Does she have a leg to stand on if she let it go this long and didn't register a complaint with them about it? How does she prove the tweet was damaging to her career?

She doesn't have to prove it damaged her career, this is not a harassment or libel case, it's a case of theft. They profited from the use of her image, the same as if they stole her car or her bank account. People pay money for her to endorse their products, hundreds of thousands of dollars. This store does not get to use her image for free.
I think it's pretty air tight.
