this is a head scratcher. Is she a beautiful woman who doesn’t look her age? Yes. Can she sing? Don’t know. Can she act? I don’t think so. I think this is weird and I hate it. Halle isn't starring in this--it's a joke. Halle BAILEY is: link

Halle BERRY, as much as I’m for creative casting, I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.

Oh man. Look at the chaos that I started. Maybe I should have started a movie thread or something. lol ETA: 52(?) year old Halle Berry is not playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid. She is gorgeous no doubt, but hardly an ingenue, and could not and should not play a 16 year old girl. And no she can't sing. Acting ability is questionable.

Holy shit! I need glasses. I log into twitter and see Halle trending along with the headline that she's going to be Ariel in the live action Little Mermaid. I was wondering how did Halle and her management pull that one off? I am ctfu over here. It would be so ballsy and bonkers, I can hardly breathe. Congrats to Halle Bailey, btw. All day long I thought it was Halle Berry, lol.

Dude, same. And then I realised Halle Berry has been famous for so long that someone who was probably named after her is now old enough to play Ariel. Fetch me my Geritol...

I clicked on the link and it really took me a minute to get it. I was staring at the picture under the headline that contained "Halley Bailey" and I kept thinking, "That's not Halle Berry..." Bailey/Berry really do look the same when you just scan the text and look at pictures. LOL.

I have really never gotten why so many people question her acting skills. I have watched many many films that prove to me that she is a tremendously powerful actor, but for some reason, she has never gotten the respect she deserves as a thespian, even after winning an Oscar.

This reminds me of the old SNL Oscars Predictions bit where Bill Murray went through all the Actors and Actresses that were nominated and discarded one after another by saying 'happily married - no chance' 'won last year - nope' 'too obvious' etc. Halle will always have trouble being taken seriously because she is So.Damn.Gorgeous. People don't want to believe that anyone can be so blessed as to be very talented and drop dead beautiful.

And the few things I have, I didn’t think she was bad, but I wouldn’t say great thespian. Not being sarcastic, what should I watch her in (outside her Oscar winning movie)? She is unworldly gorgeous and at 50 looks better than pretty much every 20 year old, but for me in particular, that’s not why I don’t think she is a great actress. I’ll be happy to change my mind though!!

I haven't seen her in much, either (I did enjoy her in the last Kingsmen movie, but that wasn't really Oscar bait) but in general, I think it is harder for attractive women to be taken seriously. Actresses seem to be considered more for Oscars when they make themselves ugly so that is where my comment was coming from.
Part of the problem may also be that she makes poor decisions on what roles to accept - but that is hardly unique to her. She seems to have had her share of relationship drama, which could lead people to believe that she's 'difficult' but I don't know - I'm speculating about actors in general.
