I watched Glitter on DVD. It was bad, but just boring bad. Not particularly cringeworthy. Nothing really to snark on. That sunk her career?

Re: The "trifling heifers"
At the time, I remember this was centered mainly around Jennifer Lopez. Allegedly, Ashanti was JLo's ghost singer (which is a different story altogether) and JLo had a song called "I'm Real". She then remixed it with Ja Rule and released it quickly, at Tommy Mottola's urging as producer. The issue with that was Mariah and Ja Rule had recorded a duet of their own for the Glitter soundtrack, which Mariah was waiting to release. JLo's song had the same sample as Mariah's song, and they were both back-and-forth songs with the same rapper. "I'm Real" became a huge hit, and Mariah felt she couldn't use her song since it was now so similar.
Around the time of Mariah's meltdown, she was saying something about "They're stealing from me" - meaning this situation.

So that explains the stories about Tommy trying to sabotage Mariah. Was the song in question " Mary Jane" by Rick James? Speaking of samples, I didn't get why Mariah had "Boy I Need You" come out relatively soon after the song that she had sampled " Oh Boy" had come out.

I remember someone (a greecie?) calling Gigli "Glitter 2, Electic Boogaloo". So, as much fun as was made of Gigli, it was understood that calling it Glitter anything meant it was bad.

My problem with Nick is that he fired the first shot (or any shot) publicly. I have no idea how ill she is (I'll believe anything after watching her all these years). And yes he picked her, but he wouldn't be the first to fall in love and start a family with someone maybe he though was better or just down to "quirky". We have no idea what really has happened in that home. It's just not his place to tell US. Even everyone involved with Britney finally shut down all talk and we still have no idea what really happened there (other than the 9/11/psych hold).
Shit (typo, leaving it) up, Nick. File papers if you want the kids, go to court. But imagining Mariah being led somewhere in a straight jacket would not shock me either.

As much as we made fun of Kevin Federline, he didn't talk smack about Britney to the media during the divorce(even though she had filed first, I believe). He eventually got custody of the kids, no? Why is Nick are sources leaking stuff like this to TMZ? What's the motive? Someone pointed out that with Nick it's not about the money as Nick has his own (maybe not as much as Mariah but not chump change either).

I had to look it up but the sample was "Firecracker" in the original, but the remix borrowed the "Mary Jane" medley. Wikipedia says: Irv Gotti, who produced the remix of "I'm Real" featuring Ja Rule, openly admitted during an interview with XXL magazine that Mottola contacted him with instructions to create a song that sounded exactly like a song he had made with Carey for the Glitter soundtrack entitled "If We" also featuring Ja Rule.

If I recall correctly the sample to Loverboy was the one used for the original Im Real and then on top of that the remix was like If We. Jennifer apparently called the day after for permission to use it and then rushed it to beat Mariah's Loverboy which is why she had to switch it. I remember Ja getting interviewed on Bet and he said that Jennifer convinced him to do the Im Real remix But the way he said it, he implied she slept with him to convince him.
