The poor girl never stood a chance. Her family life prepared her to become one of two things - tragic or insufferable. She has managed to become both.

The poor girl never stood a chance. Her family life prepared her to become one of two things - tragic or insufferable. She has managed to become both. True, and yet not true. Because there are a lot of fucked up people who came from stable homes. A lot of parents who did the very best agonize over where they went wrong, but the truth is they didn't go wrong. Sure BK came from a fucked up home, but she also had access to privilege that many people who grew up in equally fucked up homes never had. To me, BK's willfulness makes sense, she was brought up by two people who were in various stages of addiction, meaning they were children themselves, who never learned how to deal with the regular stuff life hands you. She probably feels she has to do everything herself and because of that, she won't listen to anybody who tries to give her good advice.

Whitney came from a fucked up family. (All evidence suggests the Houstons were screwed up to the nth degree.) Don't know Bobby Brown's background, but I'm sure he did, too. Given that the dysfunction goes back generations, I think it would take a lot to break that cycle. Drew Barrymore did it, but perhaps she's just made of stronger stuff than BK.
I'm curious: does BK have any substance abuse problems herself?

I think Drew hit rock bottom unusually early, and she also had a solid support system when she was willing to sober up. BK doesn't seem to have that.

Yeah, Drew had a family that was not part of her family drama that she stayed with eventually after recovery. Their younger daughter is the lady she went into business with for her film company. They sounded like a very stable family.
Plus, something about Drew makes me think she has a very humble and overall nice temperament.
And yeah, Bobbie Kristina has substance issues. She was wasted during a lot of the shooting for that reality show she was on, and her family is constantly confronting her to get it together and sober up.

So does BK really think that just because she is Whitney's daughter, she deserves Grammys, Oscars, etc.? That is very sad. It's also sad that she apparently doesn't have any concept of the God-given talent her mother possessed or the hard work she had to put in to have a successful career.

I didn't realize that she was the one who's family Drew was with /OT And it looks like BK's sense of entitlement clearly came from Bobby (not that Whitney didn't feel that way at times, but at least she worked at it and had some talent).

At what point is someone just an asshole? How long does someone get a pass because they had a fucked up childhood?

You mean Jimmy Fallon's wife? I didn't realize that she was the one who's family Drew was with /OT OMG girl, you are blowing my mind. Yes, Nancy Juvonen is who I am talking about. I had no idea she was married to Jimmy Fallon, hah! I just know her from some stories that came out when they formed Flower Films together... and then I remembered her from some article where Drew talked about staying with Nancy's family right out of rehab. At what point is someone just an asshole? How long does someone get a pass because they had a fucked up childhood? Well, she's not really getting that much of a pass. Some people feel kinda sorta bad, but she's not getting opportunities thrown at her like Lindsay Lohan or anything.
