Heather Locklear and David Spade had a certain logic--David Spade was kind of a star-struck weirdo on tv with a middling film career playing, essentially, himself, and Heather Locklear is also kind of Heather Locklear who had a tv career of her own. It was definitely strange, but they were both tv people who inhabited the same planet. But point taken. I don't even think it's such an odd pairing as to be unbelievable. The Lenny Kravitz pairing seems stranger to me and not because either one was out of the other's league. (I just have trouble imagining them interacting with each other.) I can even buy Kidman having/had a crush on Jimmy, even. Like I said earlier, I thought it was cute and it doesn't even bother me if it was just for entertainment, but certain parts just don't make sense to me. The biggest one being why the friend (who I assume is a publicist or agent or something) wouldn't just say "Hey, Jimmy. I know Nicole Kidman. She might be into you. Would you like to grab a coffee with her some time?" Why use a potential movie as ruse? I have no idea how Nicole Kidman movies are cast, but her going to potential co-stars apartments on 10 minutes notice to watch them play video games sounds off.

Not because that's how movies are cast...but because I can picture it breaking down like this: Nicole and Producer Friend walking down the street: Nicole: "I think that Jimmy Fallon guy is kind of hunky." PF: "Oh, I know him, we're total buds. I'll call him." Nicole: "Eek, I'd be so embarrassed!" PF: "No, he'd be totally into you. Let me set it up." Nicole: "You CAN'T tell him I like him!!" PF: "No worries, I'll say, like you want to talk to him about Bewitched." Nicole: "That's not too obvious??" PF: "Please, you don't know Jimmy." Dials phone. PF: "Hey Jimmy, I have Nicole Kidman here and she wants to talk to you about Bewitched. She'll come over now. Get, like, some brie." Hangs up. PF (to Nicole): "Go over there in an hour. He's totally into you." Because if I remember my single days (and I do), you often used an excuse to put the situation into play. Once it was into play, you just expected the other person to understand the ruse that was used to get there. Namely, a bs excuse to get you in a room together so you can fall in love/lust. Fallon just never picked up on it. Stars: they're just like us.

I actually bothered to read the comments sections on the video about this. Rick's majorly being called out as the worst wingman ever, with some speculating about his motivations: Nicole had friendzoned Rick, so perhaps he purposefully neglected to tell Jimmy that Nicole was interested, knowing full well that Jimmy would be Jimmy and completely blow the opportunity. Others argue that Jimmy really should have figured out that a single female movie star dropping by the house with a flimsy pretext was angling for romance, though the counterargument is, what if she really hadn't been interested, and he'd made as ass of himself by trying to hit on her? Also, why would SNL-era Jimmy have thought Nicole Kidman was after him? Since they had a mutual friend, the introduction probably seemed a little less unusual. I would guess it's probably not that uncommon that a lot of movies/shows end up being cast due to informal meetings and personal connections.

Remember when she briefly dated Toby Maguire?! I think she is an extremely insecure person that would not just assume someone was into her, so I can buy the movie ruse. I went through a difficult breakup the same time as her and TC, and I remember how awkward dating was afterwards!

An interviewer on another show asked her about it and she said it really happened that way. Either way, it was awesome.
Especially that moment of realization from Jimmy and when he put his hand out to stop her when she mentioned the video game.
"I had brie cheese!" Oh Jimmy.

Heh, I had totally forgotten that was ever a thing (though her rep insisted they were just friends).

I'm looking more at some of the other headlines on that page. AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys has had problems with substance abuse and Trisha Yearwood is still married to Garth Brooks.

So very late to the party, but I absolutely loved that clip of Nicole on Jimmy Fallon's show. If they weren't married to other people, I would totally ship Jimcole. The realization on his face when she told him about her little crush was pure gold!
