K--TL;DR... Divaspawn1 made a friend in middle school who went on to become a staunch ally and supporter in high school and in college. This kid came from a football family--dad, uncles, and big brother all had stellar college careers and went on to play in the NFL. They had science class together in eighth grade, and he pegged her as one of the smart kids who was nice enough to help the jocks if they were as polite and cheerful as he was. She continued to help him with homework, and he dragged his teammates to choir concerts and the annual musicals--it was never a boyfriend/girlfriend thing; just two kids who helped each other out and supported each other's activities. Ds1 was exempted from PE because she took enough hours of dance outside of school to equal the requirement, but one day she was sent to the gym to participate in a mandatory fitness test required by state law. She made the rounds of the different activity stations, and then it was time for the sit-ups. Everybody did sit-ups as a recording of someone counting was played, and each student was responsible for going as long as they could, then noting the number they stopped at and reporting it to one of the PE coaches. Ds1 was so focused on what she was doing that she didn't realize that she was one of the last two students going at the end, and the other kid was her friend from science class. They kept going, with the rest of the kids cheering them on, until the tape ended, they both stopped, and the coaches had them shake hands for tying for most sit-ups. Her friend was shocked that she'd had the fortitude to match him, and told everyone he was seriously considering taking up dance "if it means I'll have that kind of abs!" Throughout high school, and college at UT, Friend would introduce his friends and teammates to ds1 and tell them that she was the only kid who matched him in situps "and probably still can!" So. This kid decided as a freshman that he was going to grow his hair out and not cut it until the 'Horns won the conference championship, and he was going to let his teammates take turns lopping off his (gorgeous blond) curls during the trophy presentation. That didn't happen, and he had to figure out another plan to cut off four years' worth of hair. This is what he came up with-- having the Longhorns' biggest fan do the honors. He looks like he did in middle school--just much, much bigger. We can't wait to see where he ends up in the draft, but I have a feeling that no matter where they end up, he and ds1 will always be friends.

Bumping this thread up for a fun reason (and please understand my need for obfuscation, and please don't post the celeb's name)...so I tend bar at a very large and famous venue, owned by an even larger and famous venue based in The Big Apple. We have all kinds of big name musicians, comedians, and celebrities perform in our venue. Imagine my surprise when I found out the performer in one of the shows I was working. This person is a reality TV star, based in the City So Nice They Named It Twice, best known for having married into nobility, then divorcing her husband, then setting her sights on a well-known playboy (who had "dated" at least two of the other stars on her show), dismissing her co-stars pleadings that she think long and hard about whether this dude would be a good husband, finagling an engagement out of this dude, having the over-the-top wedding filmed for an episode of her show, finishing up with divorcing this playboy dude after less than a year as well as getting in trouble with the law and having to go into rehab.
ANYWAY. Said reality star has reinvented herself as a torch singer, found herself a music director, and is taking her act on the road. Star's tour made a stop at our venue, and sold out our nearly 4,000 seat venue. It was one of the rowdiest audiences ever, and our bars did the most business in recent memory. As we were setting up, I heard part of the sound check, and it was not fabulous (disclaimer: I'm a trained musician, so I admit I'm more critical), but that's why you do a sound check, right? So the show starts, and it was loud. LOUD. ROWDY. TALKING BACK TO THE PERFORMER. WOO-HOO. The star made a number of costume changes into beautiful sparkly gowns. That's about the best part of the show, because the star's singing was...not great. How not great was it? Multiple patrons went back to the box office to request refunds. This almost never happens, so that tells you about what the show was like.

LOL, does she still go by Countess? I guess money can't buy you class or talent.

Haha! On the one hand, hilarious. On the other hand, what made ticket-buyers think she was a good singer in the first place? It's a mystery.

scarlet, yes. Her former title is part of the name of the tour. Mulva, I think it's the phenomenon that if someone releases a record/song, that means they're a singer.
