I read that the strike has ended and they are in negotiations and it should still premiere on time.
I'd love for them to go back to the basics too but its never going to happen. Instead they are just going to pile on even more gimmicks. I think this season is going to be another redemption island, another blood vs water. Aside from having one of the most annoying Amazing Race teams on this season, John Rocker is also rumoured to be a contestant. If you are not familiar with him he was a roided ex baseball player mostly famous for being super racist and homophobic. He gave this absolutely horrible quote about New York in a 1999 interview that was just unbelievable. That this show is deliberately recruiting contestants they know are racist and homophobic really bothers me. I think I may have to give this season a pass. There is enough hate in the world, I don't need it in my mindless reality shows too.

So, did anyone else watch the season premier last night?
There isn't anyone I immediately loathe, although John Rocker has been a total horse's ass in the past, and it's likely that side will emerge again. I have to admit a HUGE amount of schadenfreude with the ouster of Nadiya. I can't stand CBS's addiction to cross-over contestants, and I didn't like the "twinnies" when they were on TAR.
Thank the Survivor gods that production decided not to do Redemption Island.

I watched. There were several people I liked immediately (I remember no names yet, so...): the Boston couple (firefighter/cop), the gay couple from NYC (lol that the one got the other flint for one of their anniversaries) and maybe the father/son firefighters. No obvious annoying people yet--but it's early. I liked the immunity challenge--but it was very reminiscent of one of the last ICs last season (guess that's inevitable).

Watching Nadiya (or was it Natalie) get the first boot was satisfying. I can only hope that her twin will be #2.

I did watch, and was a little bored, but that could also have been the anticipation of the Big Brother finale.
I "won" the AVClub contest last season, so got to pick first and last this season. I picked Reed, half of the Gay Couple from Broadway. For last place, I got Alec, who I'm not even sure was on. He's a skinny, long haired white kid from Florida. I guess he was on the winning team with Reed last night.
While Rocker's bulge is entertaining, I am very very very wary of him. He doesn't seem to be doing this as redemption for past sins.

Buh Bye John! You weren't quite as dumb as James getting the boot with TWO idols in his pocket, but you were close!

My favourite moment last night was Jeremy gathering the children under a tree to tell them the tale of Ol' John Rocker, as though the incident predated print journalism, TV and the Internet. They were all, "tell us more, grandpa!".

I've hated John Rocker for a long time and was SO glad to see him eliminated.
Not mutually exclusive, but Natalie was such a loud mouth today! I almost (very, very almost) wanted them to not vote him out so that she wouldn't get the satisfaction of thinking she had control over the situation. It's was really none of her business to start screaming for them to vote him out

Overconfident people can be so dumb. He'll have a hard time from the fraternity bros living that episode down.
