"I need some protection from all the reviews" - what does that even mean? What is he asking her to do here? Were her responses to this email leaked? Because I'd love to know how she answered that. My guess was that he wanted Pascal (and Sony) to hype up the marketing and use the strong points of the film (such as the pedigreed A-list cast) to drown out whatever bad reviews he felt were coming. I remember that the entire cast (Clooney, Damon, Blanchett, and even Bill Murray!) got trotted out en masse on the Jimmy Kimmel show to promote the film. In light of the Clooney-Pascal email, I can totally see George and Sony begging his cast to all show up together and use their combined starpower.

Barbara Walters named Amal Clooney the Most Fascinating Person of 2014. In her segment there were a couple of clips of her being interviewed. I've never heard her speak. Very poised and well spoken. And then they showed the clip of her the day of their civil ceremony with those TOO LONG PANTS!!! Sorry, that still drives me nuts.

Quite reminiscent of when Prince Charles remarried, and Camilla was named Most Fascinating that year. Georgie is Hollywood royalty, after all!

Here's the clip."Amazingly, Amal has been the subject of very little envy. Maybe because we find it impossible to resist perfection." Ay yi yi. Maybe, Barbara, just maybe in the year 2014 the majority of women have other things on their minds and other things to do with their lives which allows them to be free from the mindset of being envious of other women simply because they landed themselves a man. But Barbara says that for "us" the thing about Amal that makes her the most fascinating is -- not her poise, intelligence, class, or rich cultural background -- nope, it's that she managed to be "perfect" enough to marry a previously unattainable man. Shut up Barbara Walters!!!

Stuff like this is why I stopped watching "Baba" years ago.

She had to be purposely avoiding politics and other hot button issues, because choosing Amal as the most fascinating person this year is insulting to the American people's intelligence.
And I don't even have anything against George Clooney.

I haven't paid attention to Barbara Walters in years - I actually thought she was retired and not doing tv anymore. Back when I was paying attention to her lists, I became convinced Barbara had nothing to do with them and it was really bought (or traded or whatever) by PR companies. This goes with my theory because George really seems to be on an campaign to change his image, and he had to introduce his new bride to us somehow (look at how many of us had not heard her voice before).
I wonder what his long term plan is here.

I feel like she mostly sticks to celebrities for that list and then throws them fluff or fixates on weird things. Like, when she had Lady Gaga on she just kept asking her if she had ever slept with a woman. And Gaga eventually gave her a flustered "yes." Like, of all the things to ask her, why that? She's already out as bi.

It's all negotiated behind the scenes, and who is promoting some big project at the time or that will come out soon.
