Hee, that was my take. This, to me, is the least scandalous thing out of the hack. He wants to promote his movie and he's embarrassed that it's not doing well.
I watched MM this weekend, and it was weirdly like Ocean's Twelve during WW2, just lots of stars clearly enjoying 1940s costumes.

I really liked Monuments Men. Maybe I should head over to unpopular opinions. ;-)

I liked it too. Or I guess I was expecting something far worse from the reviews.

That's good to hear. I was looking forward to Monuments Men, but after the reviews were bad, I didn't bother watching it. Maybe I'll end up liking it going in with low expectations.
Or did writing this just raise my expectations too high again?

Time to jump up on that high horse. Is he trying to say that the media was supposed to categorically state that North Korea was responsible for a major crime based on what the hackers called themselves? That would be irresponsible. If he's saying they needed to investigate further, well sure, but cybercrime is a little more complicated than tracking down leads and he knows this. He is so far up Sony's ass. How does he explain Sony's decision to wipe this movie out completely by not giving access to it on VOD or DVD or online and going so far as to wipe all traces of it from their website? If he wants to make a big fuss about censorship, he needs to accuse all parties involved, not just the ones he doesn't like. But apparently Sony's shitty security had nothing to do with it. Does this apply to black entertainers who work for Sony too? Are they supposed to just overlook the indication (though not confirmation) that Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin might be just a liiiitttllle bit racist? Kevin Hart for one wasn't afraid. It's pretty shitty to accuse anyone who doesn't stand by Amy Pascal to either be cowards and/or have emails with unprofessional/racist/sexist/whatever statements in them. I'm all for this, but I'm confused. Is he trying to say that the reason Sony caved was because the Hollywood elite refused to sign this petition? Like if all these "unnamed but pretty easy to guess" members of the Hollywood elite signed the petition Sony would be like "Sandy Bullock says we shouldn't submit to the hackers! Fuck it! Let's take a chance! Release the MOVIE!!" Yeah, I don't think so. On this I completely agree. I'm pretty pissed off about this whole thing, and I hope it doesn't become norm. If George Clooney wants to ride his white horse in an effort to get this movie seen somehow, someway I hope he succeeds. But I have a feeling Amy Pascal is humoring him. I agree with a lot of what George Clooney says in the interview, but as always, his arrogance and Hollywood ass kissing shines through.

I agree with a lot of what George Clooney says in the interview, but as always, his arrogance and Hollywood ass kissing shines through. Totally agree. I get irritated by the fact that he's even opening his mouth—I need more time to forget about that shameless famewhore extravaganza of a wedding—but that last point is valid. It absolutely kills me that our right to see a crappy movie like this has become a matter of freedom versus tyranny.

That'll do, George Clooney. That'll do. I'd like to see him go up to Kevin Hart & Denzel. Ask them to sign that petition and see the reception he gets. Kinda tone deaf. Sony messed up. They have to pay the price. And...it's not censorship when Sony sees a way to recoup all of their money by killing the movie.

I agree with him on many points, but I don't think the racism and sexism exposed by those emails should be ignored or disregarded by the press for the sake of the "real story." Making racist jokes about the POTUS is not "a mistake." It's your poor character exposing itself.
And I'm so sick of his "son of a newsman" and "I've been hanging out in newsrooms since I was a kid so I know something about REAL journalism" schtick.

Really. I was listening to a piece on this on NPR yesterday and they never mentioned the insurance/finance component. Not releasing the movie isn't about censorship or backing down, it's about Sony's balance sheet.

Especially since so much has changed since he was a kid. It's like a nurse who's been retired for 30 years assuming he or she could march right into an emergency room and know what to do. His hangup in old school journalism could explain his backwards way of publicizing himself. His "sources" always say things that sound like they came right out of old Hollywood.
