Tim Gunn looked for the man behind the Swapnil curtain and all that was there was a puff of cigarette smoke. That was very gratifying! Tim didn't even give him a hug when he left.

A TG smackdown! I loved it. Was never impressed by Swapnil and I'm so glad that Tim called him on his shit. I wonder if he (Tim) would have been that impassioned if the challenge didn't involve Project Runway family?

Tim had confronted Swapnil politely in a previous episode when he tried to tell Tim he'd put in 200% on a challenge. I think Tim was just finally fed up with his schtick & gimmicks.
1) Take two fabrics that don't go together. 2) Pleat & twist them for hours on the dress form. 3) Knot & pin fabric so model doesn't fall out. 4) Call it sexy & completely ignore each and every suggestion that fashion is not limited to the sex goddess look; or that a garment might be functional. 4) Lather, rinse, repeat.

Swapnil swatted down! It takes more than looks, an exotic name and being "international" to do PR which used to have contestants that actually had amazing talent and craftsmanship. The quirky and edgy personalities were organic. Also Ashley: Used to like her, but even for a 1986 bridesmaid dress, that thing was fugly!!! And stop crying! Now it seems they all have to be some sort of offbeat character whether or not they can design: Candice: Sleek Fierce San Francisco Goth Mistress Edmund: (I give him a pass despite the diaper pin hat--he takes the least time getting dressed for the camera and seems like a person, not a character) Ashley: Edgy Plus Sized Latina Uber Talent and Don't You Go Hating on Fat Girlz with Purple Hair Merline: WTF? Southern Church Lady Grandma 1982 Kelli: Urban South Boston (or is it Philly? Wrong on both cities?) Working Class Flashdance 80s Streetwise Swapnil: (Yo buddy don't Rest In Peace--Get to WORK!!) I agree with all other comments about this guy and glad he's gone. Wish they actually DID send more than one home! Also, those makeovers would have been great/vengeful on EACH OTHER! I get the feeling Zac, Tim, and Nina are suffering through this season as much as the viewers. There will be schadenfreude when the finalists (whoever they will be) will all have meltdowns when required to design a cohesive collection that will fit models! I predict Edmund and Candice but it could be anyone else for number three.

Don't let the door hit you on your way out doing the Happy Dance, Merline. Do you have a degree in architecture to fall back on? Or an Associates Degree in "Arts and Architecture"? Either way, happy to see you and your cray cray poorly constructed architectural non-sensibility GONE! And your little hats too!

How the mighty have fallen! And we don't even have a thread for Project Runway: Junior Edition: Heidi Yells at Children yet. Place your Bets! Who's it gonna be tonight? I'm guessing Edmund, with Ashley as the Inspiring 2nd Place (because, you know, fat is yucky, but good for you for trying!) Candice feels like she's been set up for the fall here, since she's been consistent and "high and mighty" about it. But what do I know? They'll probably give it to Kelly for trying to bring back Fanny Packs, and who was so generically unmemorable, she barely got a notice or blurb until there weren't any more contestants. (and yes, I had to go to the website to look up everyone's name, because I've managed to forget in just 7 days.

I have no clue who will win tonight, but Tim really surprised me. I thought Candice's stuff looked appropriate and dramatic, and Kelly's was tacky as hell.

In the end, I actually liked Kelly's collection the best. Ashley's collection looked uncomfortable. I wish Candice hadn't listened to the judges, because I would have loved to have seen her original collection. In the end, what she ended up with looked a bit too simple. Same with Edmond's. The judges initial critiques took all the life out of them and they ended up with collections that were too basic.
And why couldn't they have done a separate show for the junior's version instead of mixing it in with the finale? Couldn't the finale have been much shorter?

Finally caught up again. Candice's originally planned collection was fabulous, but I could understand the critiques about being too 'costumey'. The accessories were cool as all hell, but I think they distracted from the clothes. I wish she had left in more of the cherry blossom pieces and just remixed the outfits. The black coat that everyone loved with the cherry blossom pants or something.
Kelly. I basically hated everything. I thought the fabrics with the wood grain and the metal sheeting were really fun, but looked too cheap and gimmicky to anchor the collection. I think she has a fun eye for styling, and some of what she made during the season was outstanding, but the collection just looked tacky and cheap to me. But I'm not a big fan of sparkly/ glittery 'fun' clothing. I also own about a half dozen pairs of khaki pants, and I understand that other people like glittery/ sparkly more than khaki pants and a navy sweater. Overall, I would like to know more about her in the future, and would be interested in a 'where is she now' update now and again because she has some really interesting ideas. But I hate, hate, hate the fanny packs.
Edmond was his own worst enemy, I think. It seemed like he was so in awe of being on the show that he paralyzed himself. He had some beautiful dresses, but I didn't get the 'vision' or theme. I think he was out of his league as far as creative vision, but I don't know if he just doesn't have the vision or if he had psyched himself out.
Ashley's headpieces were my favorite part of the entire finale. They were stunning. Not sure how I felt about them being part of a runway show but they were gorgeous. I liked the idea of a plus size line, and I liked that she did styles that normally aren't available in plus sizes. I loved the shape of the purple lace gown, but I thought the purple lace seemed cheap. I'm old fashioned and think that lace in anything other than the basic underwear colors (white, cream, black and pale pink) is probably cheap looking- because all the lace I've ever seen in real life that is any other color has been cheap. I'm hoping quality lace is available in other colors. I thought she had some fit issues, but I also wonder if they didn't cut her a little slack on that because the plus size models were inherently harder to fit. Her first model, the blonde? Has one of the worst runway walks I've ever seen, but her face!!! I quite liked that outfit. Overall, it seemed like Ashley's inspiration was the only one that was defined clearly enough to translate to a full collection that actually made sense with the theme.
Agreed about the PR: Juniors promos.

True confession time: I laughed pretty hard when Candace realized the cherry blossom pants had been backwards on the model. If they'd been the right way round, that group of (ahem) blood red blossoms right at the crotch would've been even more unfortunately placed. Someone sewing at that level, much less a designer, should be aware of that sort of thing. If you're cutting a print fabric, you pay attention to where the print lands on the body.
