Someone send me a gift certificate so I can buy a life. I am watching Confined, which is based A LOT on the Fritzl case, but seemingly without the incest. There are some thrilly moments, but annoyingly, the Creepy Old Guy is named "Fritz." Just in case the viewer didn't already get it, I guess. ETA: Ho hum. And spoiler, just in case: I normally hate exposition but someone whose murder was Strongly Implied just turned, with no exposition, melodramatic or otherwise, to explain her dis- and re-appearance.

This one is going to be epic: LINK JLH whoring it up with a Southern accent no less. Everyone knows that for a woman in Hollywood that qualifies as serious ACTING! Anyone know the true story this is based on?

I'm counting down the days to this movie. I can't wait. I'm hoping it's as good as the Tori Spelling movies of yore.

Here's a link to a transcript of an Anderson Cooper segment on the real life scandal. The woman's name is Crystal Burchett. The part about the scandal is down the page so just search for "Burchett" and it will take you to the relevant portion. In a nutshell, both Crystal (or "Lexus" which was her, uh, stage name) and her husband were both out of work. Bills were piling up, it was stressful, not even money for food...yada, yada, yada. A friend told her about a job at a massage parlor, at first claiming it was actual massages (but, really, a real massage parlor is going to hire someone with no certification?). Apparently, though, they had her sit in on a massage and after the woman gave the man an actual massage, he turned over and the woman and the client started having sex, right there in front of Crystal/Lexus. She took the job and became very popular. I guess there was this message board where men would post about their experiences and she was getting rave reviews. Police were getting tips about the place and so they started a stake-out and six months later, they busted everyone. Apparently, it took this long because they wanted an iron-clad case because so many of the town's luminaries were visiting this place. Everyone knew they had a client list and the whole town was talking about who was on the list. My favorite part of the whole story is about the guy who bought his wife a sports car right before the list was published. His wife was immediately suspicious and, yep, turns out he was on the list. The other part that was interesting is that it happened in Odessa, Texas which was also the town that inspired "Friday Night Lights." What cracks me up is that JLH talks about how she prepared for the role by taking pole dancing classes. The woman was a prostitute not a stripper. She was employed as a "masseuse". Why not take massage classes?

Thanks for the link. It will be interesting to see how the movie makes a sympathetic character out of this woman because from reading that transcript there is really no excuse for what she did. She claims she was desperate because she and her husband were out of work and they didn't have enough money to feed their kids, but that would have meant they qualified for food stamps and other services. Since she had a prior career their situation would have been temporary, possibly years long, but still temporary.
Her pride got in the way of applying for food stamps at the local welfare office, but not not in the way of selling sex? Please. Her kids would have survived just fine in a lower income bracket if they could see that their parents were working hard to make their lives better, and by working hard I don't mean doing the reverse cowboy on top of a fat cat who is literally fat. Blech!
All the time she spent doing 'massages' would have been better served looking for a real job or furthering her education. The reality is that she was shallow and wanted to continue to live a lifestyle she could no longer afford. I can't say I blame her for convincing herself it was all for her kids, though. A little self delusion can come in handy if it keeps a person from hating themselves and allows them to move on.
Judging from the trailer the angle they are going for is making JLH go through the moral dilemma of outing her clients and exposing the underbelly of her community. Whatever. I really hope they include the cocaine use. I want to see Jennifer Love Hewitt snort some coke. That alone will make this movie awesome.

I don't actually have a problem with women who voluntarily go into prostitution. It's their body and they should be allowed to do what they want with it. I don't think that a prostitute is any better or worse than me simply because she sells her body. So, I don't think there's anything awful about her deciding to go into prostitution to pay her bills other than it's illegal and, therefore, she took a big risk. Frankly, it bugs me that the justice system always seems so focused on punishing the prostitutes rather than the men who visit them.

Thanks a bunch, CAgirl! I'm looking forward to Brittany's movie.
Last night I pulled out a copy of a 1994 movie called Sin and Redemption, starring Richard Grieco and Cynthia Gibb. Cynthia's character comes from a strict religious family and she's not allowed much of a social life. One night after work she's raped and becomes pregnant. She soon meets a young man (played by Grieco) who doesn't care about her past. He only wants to take care of her and her child. In fact, he seems to prefer her child more than the two biological children they have later. Y'all know this HAD to end in tears, right?
Anyone remember this?

No, but I would watch the crap out of it. Unrelated to the above, but generally relevant--I was driving through the scenic backwoods of Albemarle Co. Virginia last week and realized I was in Foxworth Manor country. Thanks, brain.
