Oh, there are lots of examples. I'm not going to be able to parse out stuff from interviews, because this was mostly happening in the '90s, but one funnier one was when she claimed to be in love with author JT LeRoy, who helped her through her break up with Johnny Depp. LeRoy turned out to be a lady and his persona/lifestory was completely made up.

With JT Leroy, maybe she was always in on the charade.

I don't know dude. She never spoke of it again. None of the celebs who claimed to know him admitted to being in on the stunt, but the author and publicist where laughing about it in interviews once the truth came out.
Anyway, she is just kind of known for being prone to telling tall tales. Especially during the height of her fame. There were all kinds of little things here or there that she said that were later proven unlikely. I doubt it hurt her reputation. More likely the drugs and weak acting and bad movie choices and hitting her mid-30s slowed her career down.

I read through this whole thread a little while ago. The first time I tried to create an account here it didn't get approval for some reason. Anyway, I think somewhere in this thread people were talking about the time she claimed she discovered Leroy as a homeless boy outside an opera house, and she must have been a real idiot to make up this story about someone who turned out never to have existed. But isn't quite possible she was always in on it? (she also cameoed in the movie based on his life story) Her and other celebs were photographed with Leroy (played by a woman wearing shades) at parties. But surely they were aware it was a woman they were posing next to?
What other tall tales has she told?

Who knows. She didn't clear anything up when the truth came out and people were laughing about it. Unless she comments on it, we'll never know. It happened 8-10 years ago, so we're probably not going to get confirmation one way or another.

I think that story was debunked on Twitter by the director? In other news, a friend ran into Winona at a show in L.A. and Winona was very rude to her, which made me sad. I idolized Winona during the Tim Burton years. Oh, sweetie--she's definitely got an industry rep as Queen ****. She couldn't reportedly have a personality more at odds with her doelike appearance, sadly. ?

itsterrific, the scoop is a long and old story, actually; it goes back to the days of the other board, and beyond...I'm pretty sure I contributed to the pile of tales(I heard about really bitchy behavior on the set of "Age of Innocence"--I mean, *really* bad, from someone on the set). Before that AFAIK Noni was all sweetness and light. Later, and esp. in the wake of the shoplifting thing, a hell of a lot of dirt came out about her incredibly obnoxious, spoiled, Veruca Salt shenanigans. Everywhere. Even the New York Times "gossip" column ran something about a year ago, where the writer was clearly turned off by her not bitchy, but weird and needy (and implied high) behaviour. My impression is that--hooray for Noni--she can be charming and darling, but god help the lowly assistant or other humans within reach or earshot if her lamest whim isn't taken care of immediately. So could it be that Miriam Margolyes isn't joking in this clip?

Winona has always seemed like a lovely person to me. I find some of the stuff in this thread a bit hard to take.

Lord knows I'm no Gwyneth fan. But I gotta give side eye to the whole rumor of the stolen script. Mainly because I don't think it works like that in Hollywood. When she was on Howard Stern last month she said it was totally untrue. When Stern said he thought Winona might have been pissed at her, Gwyneth just said she hadn't seen her in years.

When were Winona and Gwyneth friends? Was that back when Fishsticks was dating Ben Affleck? Regardless, Winona did an great job on Drunk History, and it looks like she is/going to be in a T.V. miniseries according to IMDB.
