I've been approached by a drag queen about making some historical costumes, with a possibility of making drag performance clothes. I am fairly ignorant about modern drag culture- can someone who is knowledgeable point me in the direction of some resources so I can read up on it? Books, websites, documentaries are fine but not reality tv shows. I want to learn enough so that I don't put my foot in my mouth in talking with her and so that I know what goes into making a suitable outfit so that I can decide whether I want the work.

I don't know if this is technical enough for you but Tom and Lorenzo have a book about RuPaul's Drag Race that essentially goes into the entire history of drag. That might be a good starting place that has references that point you in the right direction.
This sounds like a fun project!

Seconding the recommendation for Tom & Lorenzo's book (the title is Legendary Children.) I learned a lot about the history of drag culture.

Weird question here, but didn't know where else to ask...
Mr.d and ds3 have headed out for a concert in San Antonio tonight--a friend of his offered to buy his and ds3's tickets if Mr. d would drive. So...
They left about half an hour ago, after a VERY last-minute search for a transparent bag for ds3 to carry her stuff in. Both she and I remembered that ds2 has a small, transparent backpack (exactly the right size for her belongings), and ds2 graciously offered her the use of that bag tonight. Then, Mr.d looked up what does and does not constitute a transparent bag in this particular venue.
Turns out that a clear mini-backpack is not acceptable at this particular concert hall, and she was relegated to toting a gallon-sized Ziploc bag instead. And she was fine with that...
...but I'm not. Anyone want to explain to me why a gallon-sized transparent Ziploc is okay and a same-sized transparent backpack is not? Just curious...

I'm no help but what a weird place to draw a line. I can't imagine why the backpack wouldn't be acceptable. Out of curiosity, were they going to see Michael Buble? I came thisclose to jumping in a car and making the trip for that show lol
Speaking of purses and concerts, a couple of weeks ago Bad Bunny was playing in town. They had a no purse or maybe a clear purse policy. A bunch of women weren't prepared, so they "cleverly" hid their purses in the bushes. There's video of some guy going through the bushes picking up dozens of purses. I can't believe they thought those purses would still be there after the show.

Ds3 was underwhelmed, apparently.

I wonder if there's something about backpacks that makes them (seemingly) more insecure? I went to a Giants (baseball) game earlier this year and their stadium policy allows all sort of bags - purses, shopping bags, briefcases, soft-sided coolers... but no backpacks of any size.

Yes, backpacks are banned at all NFL stadiums. It's supposed to prevent people bringing in weapons and bombs, and generally slowing down the security line as backpacks are difficult to search. A small, transparent backpack really is atypical in the backpack genre.
When I was traveling with my mother in Europe, every museum banned backpacks. I think because people tend to knock things over with their backpacks without realizing it. Also, they don't want backpackers crowding up the museum with those really huge ones.
I had a very small leather backpack that I could take off my shoulder and carry as a purse. I would attempt to discreetly go through security and my mother, without fail, would yell out 10 feet from the guards, "Backpacks aren't allowed, Ginger! You're going to have to check your backpack! They aren't going to let you in unless you check that backpack!" Thanks for the help, mom.
