I don't have any sympathy for George either.
A Game of Thrones was published in 1996. Clash (book 2) came out in 1998 and Storm (3) in 2000. He can crank out a good story the size of a doorstopper in just a couple of years if he wants to. It's not D&D's fault GRRM dragged his feet with Feast and Dance and is dragging on Winds. Who knows if book 7 will even be published.
He either needs to write fast or accept that the TV show is going to spoil his books to some degree. Those are his only two choices and his whining about the timeline isn't going to change it.

I think Jon Snow is dead and the showrunners and Harington aren't lying. But I don't think he is dead forever. I think that he will be back in some form or fashion -- they kept the witch alive for a reason and I think Jon is it. Exactly :-) they would have to be done with the Wall story and scenes without Jon and I don't think they are. The showrunners know that this cliffhanger will be resolved with the next book which might be released before the next season. I get why they have to be "Yep, he's dead". Also, I choose to believe Sam for once: Jon always comes back. And finally, if this was the end for Jon, why miss out on the chance to have Thorne sneer "Burn his body"? Now THAT would have made this a real cliffhanger. And not showing Melisandre returning to the Wall ;-)

I hope the folks in Team Resurrection are right! That would make the most sense. Maybe Kit really was released from his contract to pursue other roles with the understanding that they may ask him to come back. I guess how much cash they have to dangle in front of him to get him to come back depends on how well those other roles work out for him.
And speaking of Thorne saying "burn the body", it would certainly confirm a popular theory if the body didn't burn!

Make of this what you will. Kit Harington's available for films, but not for a regular series (w/ a 6-year commitment). His agency (CAA) swears Jon's dead as dead can be. My co-workers are of the belief that he'll sit out season 6 then come back in another form- either at the end of season 6 or beginning of season 7. My boss said when other major characters on GoT died, they knew well in advance that those actors were available. That was not the case with Kit.
However, his rep's official line is that Jon's dead and Kit's free....

Hmm, thanks LurkerNan. I still think GMM could've written or managed his time better. I have no sympathy for him. I totally agree... I wonder if the attention the series has brought to him is something causing him to drag his feet. Maybe he just doesn't want all the glory to end. Maybe he would write faster if he didn't have all that HBO money banked... it's easier to be motivated when your main source of income is the books you have promised the publisher. He cranked out the first few quickly enough.

Well, writing isn't always easy, especially when expectations are so high. The first few books were written on his own schedule and were good because no one was breathing down his neck. And really, he's not obligated to write another word if he doesn't want to.

He can stop writing today if he wants. I'm just tired of him whining about how the TV show is moving ahead of his books. What did he honestly expect? Or that he snaps at the fans to quit asking him TV questions because the show and the books are two different things, and in the next breath he grumbles that this or that character got left out or killed off in the TV show version.

Harington was anounced as the lead in The Death and Life of John F. Donovan with Kathy Bates and Susan Sarandon, and the film was briefly posted at IMDB as a future project. Then it was taken down. (It's still up on IMDB Pro, but is listed in the scripting stages only)
I thought the film might have been taken down to prevent people from guessing that Harington would be out of GoT next season. But then he did manage to make other films these past two years while a GoT cast member. So who knows how much free time he needs to do other films.
Although KH has grown as an actor over the years, of all the twentysomething and teen actors in the Game of Thrones cast, Kit seemed to have the least amount of range. And supposedly, other youngish actors who landed prominent roles in the show like Joe Dempsie and Iwan Rheon, also tested for Jon Snow. I'm not a Jon Snow or KH hater, but I think other actors who are in supporting roles on the show would have been a better Jon Snow.
Heck, even the teen who played Ollye is a better actor thatn KH, IMO.

Hee, I thought Olly got worse throughout the season. KH has definitely grown into the role and seemed a lot more passionate about Jon, especially in the latest interviews I saw. Which I guess is ironic either way;-)

I didn't really jump on the Jon Snow train until the Night's King ep this season. That was the first time that I even cared if he lived or died. Then GoT kills him two eps later. It is like THEY KNOW. They always know the perfect time to kill a character for the most dramatic effect.
