I'm getting back into obsessive mode, and have been watching breakdowns of the trailer for most of the day. This is by far the best one. Alt Shift X does amazing analysis on all things GoT. May be spoilery. I can't remember what's common knowledge anymore. This will help those who hate those quick flashes of indecipherable scenes. Thank you! That's super helpful. GoT is one of the shows where I don't mind possible spoilers. I really want to see Davos' reaction when he tries to find Shireen.

I've been thinking about Arya's character arc a lot lately, and in both iterations--book and show, I don't see a happy ending, or even a normal life for her in the cards. Let's say she becomes a Faceless assassin, and kills people for the group, and even completes her own kill list; then what? Does she get to go home to Winterfell and be a normal person? Would she be content to conform and marry a Stark or Tully bannerman, and set up house somewhere? No. I don't see any storyline for Arya ending with her staying in Westeros, or being reunited with her family. I think Arya will never return to Winterfell. She may come back to Westeros, but she'll have no desire to return to her former life, home, or family. Avenging them will be enough.
As for Bran, I also don't see him returning to Winterfell. He's either going to permanently worg into Summer or die and become one with the trees/woods.
I think Rickon will be the new ruler of Winterfell. I believe that Jon is Azor Ahai and will die in the final big battle, or live and help Rickon restore Winterfell to its former greatness.
Sansa will rule the Vale after killing Littlefinger.

I agree that a normal life just isn't in the cards for Arya. She may see her family or Winterfell again, but she won't stick around. She'll either die after she gets her revenge, or she will go back overseas.
I saw some pictures of this season where it appears people are marching under a Stark banner, and Sansa is wearing a dress with a Stark insignia embroidered on it. While I suppose those people could be marching with Jon Snow, I am hoping that it is Sansa the northerners gather behind, and she gets to kick some ass. I actually really want to see Sansa get Winterfell back and stay there to rule. Rickon can take over the Vale once Littlefinger is done away with. I agree that Bran won't be back. He may be the new three-eyed Raven.

So who do you want to see as the final ruler on the iron throne?
My spec for the show is that Sam will figure out some sort of White Walker-stopping magic. He is the only person who knows that dragon glass and Valyrian steel can stop them, so he'll use his new skills and knowledge to create this magic. Somehow Danaerys and her dragons will be involved since they need more dragon glass. I'm assuming the seven kingdoms will have to unite to fight the threat from the beyond the Wall in the final season, and that's where Sam's magic will come in. Just my thoughts.

So who do you want to see as the final ruler on the iron throne? No one. I think the notion of one person/one family ruling 7 different smaller kingdoms is obsolete. I think the time has come to let the old ways fall away. I think that Winter and therefore the white walkers, will make it all the way South. I think the Red Keep and the iron throne will be destroyed in a major battle. I think the Tyrells (if they're as smart as they seem to be) will get out of dodge when the temperature starts to dip. The Lannisters are toast. Cersei, Jamie, and Tommen will all die. The Baratheons are already gone. I don't even think that Dany will live to make it back to Essos. I think when she finally arrives back in Westeros, it'll be just in time to see she has to save the homeland that she's fought so hard to retake. She'll see it's not about avenging her family or getting back at their betrayers. The threat of never-ending winter, and zombie hoards trumps all politics. She'll probably die in battle/sacrificing herself to bring more dragons into the world. I haven't worked all the details out, but I only see about 10% of the population surviving the ice zombie apocalypse. They'll be very few named characters left standing on the last page. I think Tyrion actually will make it, and finally get Casterly Rock. Rickon gets Winterfell. Tyrells hide in the Westerlands. Sansa gets the Vale. Edmure and his Frey bride get the Riverlands. I think 99% of the Freys are going to be wiped out this season. Theon doesn't make it to the end of the series. He'll die nobly to redeem his past misdeeds. The wall will come down, and there'll no longer be a night's watch. I really do think it's about to get all LotR:Two Towers on GoT. Hardhome was just a taste of what's to come. I'm just curious as to how much insight we'll get into the white walkers. I find them infinitely more fascinating than people playing the game at this point. Trust me, I love me some Queen of Thorns, Varys, and Tyrion; but I will probably shit a brick if/when the Night's King opens his mouth and starts talking human language.

So, are they still going to pretend that Jon is dead and gone forever? After an entire episode of Davos and a handful of Jon's buds protecting his body and not a single one of them has said, "Hey, we should burn his body before he turns into an ice zombie"?
Oh, and that Ramsey. Feeding his dead girlfriend's body to the dogs because hey, she's good meat, after all. So practical.
Go, Pod! It looks like Brienne's fighting lessons are starting to pay off. And he knows enough to coach Sansa on her vow after Brienne pledges fealty to her.
Don't care about Dorn. Last season ruined it for me.
I also don't really care about the Sparrow and his religious fanatics anymore. Let someone - Cersei, the Tyrells, whoever - take them out already.
I'm kinda bored that Dany is sort of back to square one, unless she convinces the horde to follow her or something.
I look forward to Tyrion releasing the dragons and kicking some ass. Let's hope he's read a book on the care and training of dragons at some point.

It was a weird episode. Nobody saying things that need to be said, or asking logical questions. The Jon thing is completely absurd. Why bring a dead body inside that has even a remote chance of rising, and locking yourself in a room with it? It defies logic! A throw away line about sending his body back to Winterfell would have sufficed. The Dorne stuff continues to be embarrassing, but at least no one got naked. How did those other two Sand Snakes end up in King's Landing, when they were last seen on the dock in Dorne? Did they follow Jaime's boat just to kill Tristan too? Why not give him a poison kiss on the dock as well? And he didn't have any guards on that ship? Aye yi yi. Not that I want to see more rape on this show, but it's awfully convenient that those Dothraki guys decided to wait and bring Dany but to the homeland before the idea of rape occurred to them. And how is it that no one recognized Dany? No one remember's Drogo and his white-haired wife? Wouldn't they be known throughout the Dothraki world? Arya? Meh. Sansa, Theon, Brienne, Pod, Tyrion, Varys, Cersei, Jaime, Marg, Sparrow Guy, and the Boltons? All meh. I did chuckle at the thought of all the dude bros losing their boners over Melisandre tonight. I know this episode was just for set-up, but I can't wait for the real action to begin. Hopefully, now that everyone is caught up, we can see some real progress.

I read the leaked possible S6 spoilers linked a few pages back. They seemed so plausible that I assumed they were real, but the situation in Dorn is completely different from what the leaked summary said, so I guess it was a hoax.
I'm really spoiled by watching shows that are released in their entirety because I'm annoyed at having to wait a week. All in all I thought it was a pretty good season opener.
One thing that struck me was the dialogue between Jaime and Cersei. I can't remember what it was specifically, but Jaime said, "Fuck [whatever it was]. And fuck [something else]." I know this is fantasy but that felt completely anachronistic to me. "To hell with [whatever it was]" would have suited the flavor of the period better.
Was the Melisandre nudity necessary to show she's really an old lady? My tolerance for unnecessary female nudity (unless accompanied by some male full frontal within the same episode, then I'll overlook it) is low.
I was happy for Breanne to have finally met success in her quest. Woo hoo!
Also, has anyone read the articles about how mathematicians have determined that Tyrion is the most important person in the show? They're using the same algorithms that they used to figure out the power players within terrorist groups by analyzing social media.

Yay Pod! He's a badass and not only in bed.
After Renly and Catelyn, I'm happy Brienne found someone to serve as a personal guard for. Like Barristan she's a soldier who seems happiest when guarding someone with a sword.
So either Mel is very old or producing all of that wacky fire magic has taken its toll on her body. Or both. Stannis was nearly depleted after fathering two shadowbabies, imagine what a wreck Mel must be after years of doing that kind of stuff.
The Dorne storyline exists only to make me angry. Ugh. Totally ruined from what is in the books. Book Ellaria is lovely and just wants the fighting to stop and the Sand Snakes are really cool and love Myrcella, who is still alive. Areo, Trystane, and Doran are alive and the family is working together.
I'm tired of the Waif smacking Arya around for no reason. In the books they get along, she and Arya are teaching each other their native languages, and the waif is actually teaching Arya some useful skills and passing along knowledge. In the TV show she's just a bully. I used to think show Ja'qen was cool but I'm beginning to think he's a jerk for being associated with this crap.
Dorne and Braavos together really make me frustrated because it seems when the producers need to compress or deviate from the books, they don't know what to do with the women so they make them all mean, hateful, and petty.
