Office Space is an ensemble movie. She was part of the ensemble, and even had a highly quoted scene ("How do you like that flair?" /flips bird). I'm not saying that movie made her a movie star, but a lot of people like it, and she's an enjoyable part of it.
And having an iconic hairstyle on a massive hit show can mean a lot. Just ask Farrah Fawcett.
Edited to add: Mary Tyler Moore sort of is a different case, as she was nominated for Best Actress for Ordinary People. So her ties to the Academy are different.

Did Farrah present year after year at the Oscars? No. That's all my issue is: why is Brad's ex wife such a fixture at the AA's presenting given she's not a great actress outside of sitcoms and her 'Rachel' cut.
Kind of feeling like my brain is bleeding a bit. This is what she can do people! Crap a simple wtf is Rachel Green doing presenting at the Oscars and aaagh!

She's in hit films? People in the industry like her? People like her in general? She's a reliable presenter? The Rock and Jason Bateman presented this year, and their big gigs were TV related too. If Farrah had made it big in this day and age, maybe she would be a regular presenter as well. Who knows. It's a different era. She did present and attend over the years, though. ETA: Hang in there! It's all just hair and glitter and smoke and mirrors!

Yeah she is only there because of Brad. If being in an iconic sitcom would do it, then the whole Friends cast and Seinfeld would be there year after year. She has coasted on Brad's bland ass for an eternity already.

If Jennifer Aniston is getting invitations extended because of her ex-husband, that says a lot about other people, and perhaps moreso than Jennifer. Brad isn't anything especially special--I mean, he's Brad Pitt (whatever that means, because this is a highly subjective thing in the first place), but he's never won an Oscar, either. I don't pay attention to the Oscars, so I'm not particularly invested in this or Jennifer herself, but I also think the comparison to Aniston to classic screen people is kind of asymmetrical. Audrey Hepburn retired early after playing Audrey Hepburn in a variety of roles--Jennifer's had a longer career so far, and more diverse roles in the industry. Post-retirement, Audrey had a few special appearances, and while I like her in Funny Face and Charade, I don't have a problem with thinking of her as fairly one-note, either. Katharine Hepburn's Larchmont Lockjaw aesthetic was also very fixed--I like her, too, but I would wager that fairly early on in her career she was cast (and asked to appear) because she was Katharine Hepburn and not a master thespian, even though she was also very talented. And there was also her association with some guy who was famous. And Bacall married well herself. Her upcoming project is directed by Peter Bogdanovich (who directed Audrey Hepburn's last starring movie, apparently) and filled with Oscar-people, so maybe the glitter and smokebombs are all around.

I think most people know who Jennifer Aniston is without being reminded that she was once married to Brad Pitt. I wouldn't even say that Brad Pitt is more well-known or popular around here than Jennifer Aniston.

I don't think it's so weird that she shows up at the Academy Awards year after year. She's been in a lot of movies- maybe the majority of them weren't Oscar caliber... but she's still been in a lot of movies that for better or worse have made box office money so I could see why the Academy folks consider her one of their 'darlings'. Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen DeGeneres are definitely better known for TV than for movies- but they've been asked to host the thing.
Besides, maybe the Academy folks keep hoping one day an epic cat fight will break out between JA and Angelina. It hasn't happened, and will probably never happen. But their faith is as strong as Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin- so they send out the invites every year...

She presents every few years--which is in line with a ton of other actors. She's not Jack Nicholson sitting front and center every year (I kind of miss that it a perverse way). I don't think she's particularly anything special and I laugh how she acts like she didn't practically sell a kidney for a nom for "Cake," but it's not like they're saluting her in any meaningful way with a presenter invite every few years (and that's what it is: she presented in 2006, 2009, 2013 and this year).

Actually Brad has won an Oscar...... He has 5 oscar noms - 1 for best supporting actor, 2 for best actor and 2 as producer. He won as a producer for 12 Years a Slave.
Personally I side eye the likes of JLO, The Biel, Anniston and assorted other celebs who routinely show up to present when the chances of them ever getting a nom are nil. Despite reaching for a nom for Cake, I'm not convinced Anniston is going to come that close ever again. Still if The Academy asks them all to present who are they to say no?

This is my ignorance about the Oscars, but is the Best Picture title a producer's award? I really have no idea. I know that's how it's listed, but I thought that ultimately it's an ensemble award because it's about best work overall, and shared with whoever else was producing. I'm not saying it doesn't count, but it seems like, say, Gwyneth's Oscar is hers and Brad's Oscar is for the project.
