Bumping this thread because I wanted to see if anyone else had seen Wild and there's not a thread about it in movies.
Reese got on my bad side with the drunken Atlanta arrest incident, but I went to see Wild yesterday and enjoyed it.
The author of the memoir was 26 when the events of the book took place, so I think it says a lot about Reese that she's youthful looking enough that I could buy her in the role. (In Lincoln, Sally Field as the mother of a young child was unbelievable distracting to me.)
I thought she gave a really good performance, but I was really aware that I was watching Reese Witherspoon the whole time--she didn't completely disappear into the character for me. It was weird to hear her say, "I'm Cheryl."
That said, it was the first movie that's made me cry in about 15 years.
And on another not, I have become friends with someone who just moved here from Nashville. Her younger son lifeguarded at the country club pool where Reese brought her kids when they were in town. Her son said they were really well behaved and polite, which really stood out because the place was filled with bratty, entitled rich kids. Sheryl Crow's kid was also really well behaved. Points for good parenting!

What the heck? Sheryl Crow has a kid? I missed that, lol!
I have heard good things about Wild. I was wondering if the age thing was going to be an issue, because Reese is older than me and I know the book follows a younger woman. Also, I don't know that Reese is the type to disappear into roles for me. I still want to check it out.

Reese definitely looks young in the movie to me, so it wasn't a factor and it was easily her best performance in years. It's nice to see her use her power in Hollywood to bring this sort of story to the big screen instead of stupid rom-coms, so I give her props for that.

In general Reese looks young, and in the best way, not child-like, like Natalie Portman, just someone who looks a decade younger. Kristen Bell also looks quite youthful as well in this same way. Are they both non-smokers?

It was weird to hear her say, "I'm Cheryl." I had the same issue, she didn't really disappear into the role. I didn't hate her though, and I usually do. So that's a plus. I mostly saw the movie for the scenery porn and I was not disappointed.

I saw Wild and really enjoyed it, but I read the book first. I thought Witherspoon was very good. She does flinty well.

Also really enjoyed Wild, and have not read the book. Reese is very good in it, and if she hadn't already won the Oscar, this might be a tighter race for Best Actress.
She needs to keep finding work like this, because Legally Blonde might have just been lightning in a bottle.
And if you like nostalgic films, look for her film debut in The Man in the Moon. It's really good, and she's really good in it.

I'll third the sentiment regarding Man in the Moon. Such a sweet little movie. Also has Sam Waterson as her father and one of the London twins before they both became such hot messes.
