She's pretty much glossed over the arrest incident in interviews. I do think we got a glimpse of the real Reese during those arrest videos and then everything she's done since then is to try and convince us this saccharine sweet Reese who says shucks and gosh and goes to church is the version we should concentrate on.

I love Election. She was awesome. I like to think its because there is a healthy dose of Tracy Flick in Reese. And here's a shameful confession, I actually will watch Sweet Home Alabama every time its on. Why? I don't know. I know, intellectually, it's predictable, but damn if Fred Ward doesn't crack me up. "You can't ride two horses with one ass, sugar bean!" I love both of those movies, and would you please scoot over and let me watch Sweet Home Alabama with you? I love it partly because it's a nice juicy romcom; partly because I met my husband when I was 11; partly because Josh Lucas, Patrick Dempsey, and Ethan Embry are very nice to look at; partly because I love that Reece's character isn't a total Mary Sue and has to redeem herself and still doesn't always come off as the good guy; partly because Fred Ward's character reminds me a little bit of my dad; and, finally, partly because Candace Bergen is hilarious. *Scoots over on couch* Have a seat, girlfriend.

I'll add Freeway and Fear to the pile. Should we all just swallow our pride and have a Reese movie marathon?

Also The Importance of Being Earnest, please, although she's rather a minor player in that one. And Overnight Delivery! Paul Rudd!

If loving Sweet Home Alabama is wrong, I don't want to be right!
I like many of Reese's movies and generally think Reese is very good in them. Reese might be a pill in real life but she's talented.

I have only seen three of her movies. Ever. Yet, I cannot say I'm not a fan of Reese Witherspoon. Of the three movies I've seen, two are my favorite, frequently re-watched movies of all time. They just don't happen to be the movies most people call out when they think of her.
I'll never completely dislike Reese because of Freeway and Cruel Intentions. She'll never make such magnificent trash again. I respect that. But all the good movies she's made(Pleasantville, Election, Legally Blonde, etc.) I never got around to watching them for some reason. The third movie I watched--Fear--might have become a favorite of mine if not for my irrational hatred of Markie Mark's face.

I LOVE Cruel Intentions! I'm seen it eleventy million times. Did my yearly re-watch yesterday (also re-watched Wild Things). Still good trashy fun. Today we'll watch Poison Ivy and Color Of Night. The 90s had the best bad noir. I treasure them so. On tap for tomorrow are Sleeping With the Enemy and Enough. Similar theme. Different hilarious results despite the harrowing subject matter. I just can't think of Reese as a romcom star, though I know she was quite successful. My favorite Reese lovingly strokes Sebastian Valmont's beautiful face. She's all-American, virginal, and good. My other favorite Reese pops bubblegum while beating Kiefer Sutherland within an inch of his life, smiling the entire time. She's hardcore, country, and sullen. Nothing in between those two archetypes. O/T - Since Reese has shied away from that sort of thing, I really need for Sarah Michelle Gellar to start playing the bitchy mom in these sorts of movies. Like, she could definitely play the boozy, bitchy, bitter Theresa Russell part in Wild Things. It's time. She'd be brilliant. Anything SMG turned down, Shannen Doherty could scoop up.

Yes!!! I watched the original trash and all the straight-to-video/cable sequels- The whole Poison Ivy series (except I somehow missed Alyssa Milano's installment), the Wild Things sequels, etc. Speaking of which, I'm surprised that "Fear" didn't spawn a bunch of sequels.
Also check out a young Amy Adams in Cruel Intentions II.
