I still wish she'd give up on trying to be a pop star and just go back to acting. THIS! Leave the pop star thing to Mariah and Madonna. It'd be interesting if she were to become a successful music producer in her own right. Can she go back to movies, or are there not too many good/interesting roles for her right now? Maybe she should act on TV? I respect her for not doing a reality show based on her life...yet. JLO will be starring in a TV series in 2015. details here.

I can see why she does the pop star thing. She was never the biggest movie star or biggest pop star, but being a force in both fields is what kicked her career into overdrive. She probably would be mostly forgotten if she wasn't a "triple-threat". Also, I've heard her say, in so many words, that she finds music more enjoyable. Quite honestly, I'd rather be a huge dance/pop star than a huge movie star, too, so I get why she's still at it. It'd be interesting if she were to become a successful music producer in her own right. I think she has a tin ear. Maybe you're talking production as like discovering and nurturing, but I don't think she even pretends to have any behind the scenes musical talent.

Also, just to throw in some older celebs who became a brand once famous: Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman. Supermodels put out to pasture in their 30s and 40s have been doing it since the '70s.
I think what happened though is we came out of the '90s with 16-year-old pop stars and Disney starlettes and the Olsen twins getting marketed and branded like the Beatles were, plus folks like Martha Stewart making insane amounts of money branding themselves and their lifestyle, and these business/PR models started to get applied to more celebs. Why seek out degrading endorsements and do commercials in Japan when you can make insane amounts of money with your own brand? Synergy = Ka-ching!
Also, I don't get why the first lady shouldn't pose with JLo for a picture. High-up politicians have been posing with celebrities for generations now. And why is it bad to pose with JLo? She's a hardworking and powerful businesswoman. Performing in a jewel-encrusted swimsuit doesn't make her a bad or sketchy or skanky person. She's an entertainer. That's the sort of thing people wear onstage these days (I've seen professional dancers, burlesque performers, and even ballerinas wear similar getups onstage).

Lillie Langtry was a Victorian-era actress who shilled soap. Celebrity endorsements are nothing new under the sun.

I guess they have to face the music that the strips are no longer coming to them as it used to. I would never have expected Halle to do tv. Even if her movie career has been losing steam, I thought she would hold out a bit longer and wait for the movie roles. I also certainly did not expect Jlo to do television since her ego is so huge.

Work is work. Halle has child support to pay and JLo has an expensive lifestyle and lots of hangers on to pay. I think they've tried to spin it so it doesn't seem like they are no longer viable movie stars but they have both flopped pretty hard at the box office. Halle peaked with her Oscar which was 10 (?) years ago. JLo's peak was the Wedding Planner, also 10 years old.

The move to TV is one of the smartest things she's done in recent years. She should have done it when her profile got a bump after joining AI the first time around. Maybe putting together a long term deal with Fox. I also certainly did not expect Jlo to do television since her ego is so huge. I think the stigma isn't what it once was, she's already on TV anyway (reality TV at that), and she's always been very money-conscious. Plus, she can assuage her ego by blaming it on sexism and being an aging actress.

Benny Medina is involved with getting this series off the ground too. (Didn't J. Lo part ways with him some time ago?) She now has two small kids. She can say that working on a TV series (which has more regular hours than movies) makes sense because it will allow her to spend more time with her children.

We're also in a golden age for television, with a lot of great programming and groundbreaking stuff happening. There are a lot more opportunities and complex roles for women these days, too, with projects like Nurse Jackie, Orange is the New Black, Mad Men, etc.
Meanwhile, movie studios are really struggling. I can't remember the studio, but last week I was looking at their planned films through 2016, and it was nothing but franchises installments and reboots. Blah.
Plus, Halle Berry is going on 15 years or movies that bombed and/or majorly sucked. JLo has pretty much always sucked (though some people dig her in Out of Sight... which came out in 1998).

Jennifer will also be starring in two movies in 2015. A thriller "The Boy Next Door" with Ryan Guzman and "Lila & Eve with Viola Davis, and she filmed both of these movies while being a judge on Idol, and promoting her album. What I don't understand is how she is able to take on all of these projects at one time, and other endeavors she was involved in such as becoming the executive producer of the spanish TV station NUVO, opening up Spanish-oriented cell phone stores in her name, etc. - but she did. She is still being managed by Benny Medina, and under his guidance it seems he will continue to make sure that JLO will be considered the "triple threat".
