Very interesting casting news! Has Richard Armitage ever played a truly psycho role? I hope his American accent will be good.

I was hoping for Lee Pace but I think Armitage will be great! He's a good-looking guy, I can't wait to see how they ugly him up.

I haven't seen any of the Hobbit movies so I am not familiar with him at all. He seems too good looking for the part but all the other casting has been on point so I trust the show. Some more spoilery information for season 3. I guess its not that much of a spoiler if they've cast Dolarhyde. Clearly they are moving towards Red Dragon territory. Season 3 should be interesting.

Slightly OT, but Ralph Fiennes was incredible in Red Dragon. Richard will have big shoes to fill.

I just saw the Hobbit this weekend so Armitage was fresh in my mind. I think he will do well in the role; if nothing else he can bring the intensity.

I like that they went for a uniquely handsome actor for the part. The book dropped several hints that Francis Dolarhyde wasn't nearly the monster that his deranged childhood convinced him he was and the contrast was what made the character so compelling. Armitage has the sort of intense, brooding "mask of humanity" vibe that Manhunter didn't have time for and Red Dragon wasn't interested in so it could fit better in the longer format of a TV series.
