It's funny that she could be the star of such a racy movie and still come across as so bland. I haven't read the books or seen any of the films, so I'm not an expert. But is the character bland, too? Like a blank slate (who can represent any woman!) who Christian Grey gets to practice all his sex skills on? I (sort of) watched the movie. Her character is supposed to be a shy, mousy, awkward college-aged virgin who is brought out of her shell by Christian's S&M games. And the movie proves that even shy, mousy, awkward characters still need to be played by actors with charisma. Once the character becomes all sexed up, the movie goes from dumb and boring to hilariously awful.

...when are these stupid gender reveal parties going to become a thing of the past? Hate them. A click-bait link for Grandparent reveal posts/parties showed up on my Facebook page today, so I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. This has nothing to do with Dakota, but since we are talking about gender reveal parties: this is the funniest thing I read today.

Wilted piece of celery leaf* Chris Martin and dried water chestnut* Dakota Johnson have "consciously uncoupled". (I hate that this is a thing now) I'm sure the scarf in human form* will have another woman closer to Apple's age than his, on his arm in a few months. *All insults are stolen from the undefeated Michael K.

Chris Martin always fills my I’m not annoyed by Bono being Bono ish today lapses. (OT, U2 are Larry , Adam, The Edge and the little fella who sings and shouts to me) Dakota annoys me by association.

Gwyneth posing with her arm around Dakota and saying that she “adores” her sounded the death knell in that relationship. Well played, Gwyneth. Well played. You are better off, Dakota.

I don’t get Dakota Johnson. I think she’s very plain and her acting skills don’t impress me. Basically I thinks she’s dull as dishwater. But I think she’s better off without the Martin Paltrows in her life.

I disagree with the "she is not a good actress" narrative. Her work in Suspiria and Bad Times at the El Royale is stellar.

Yeah, I'm also going to give her credit to TRY those roles. She could be coasting on her name, but she seems to be trying to challenge herself.

She can seem quite bland and has her mom’s soft-talk thing. And I hate hate what I have seen of the 50 Shades movies. But I really liked her in that show she was a single mom with Nat Faxon as her zany brother. That was the first thing I had ever seen her in and my first thought was, man she’s kinda blah. But then I found her to be very sweet and funny. I saw her name in the opening credits, but it wasn't until a few episodes later that I realized who her parents were. That threw me for a loop.
The show didn’t last long at all but that character was my main reference for her. So I was thrown back through the loop when she was cast as Bella Swan redux.

She and Nat Faxon were quite the siblings!
