Surprisingly, I think he made a pretty savvy move regarding his fanbase by waiting until after Parker was born to come out of the closet.
The information that he was having a child, "out-of-wedlock", via IVF, with his "best friend" who happened to be a 40+ year old woman made all but the most oblivious Claymates at least CONSIDER the idea that he was gay. But, being that the news was about a baby being born, there couldn't be too much hair-pulling and teeth gnashing. Then, a few months pass to let the idea of him possibly being gay to sink in and, voila, he comes out on the cover People magazine. But, AGAIN, he softens the blow by also making it about the release of the first pictures of the baby.

I told my husband yesterday that, in addition to coming out, Clay Aiken recently had a baby with his best friend. My husband replied, "That is impossible! You're not allowed to have a baby with your mom."
And I was reminded reminded of why I married him.

Talked to my Gramma, who lurves Clay, today. "Did you see my sweet Clay finally came out?" she said. "Really, though, who didn't already know? I mean, you'd have to be pretty dumb not to."

Clay Aiken isn't attractive in either a conventional or unconventional way and he's not sexy or hot or even sexy-ugly or whatever description could be used to describe someone who attracts a lot of women and men so I don't understand how he has so many female fans who are in love with him in a "I want to marry and have his children" kind of way. What exactly is it about him that makes him seem hot to some women? That's what I'm not understanding.
Then again, I don't think I really understand it with Liberace either but I was not alive at the height of his popularity when people didn't realize he was gay to understand it. But even I were there I still probably wouldn't get it.
I can understand how a non-threatening type would be attractive to some, but even the non-threatening types like a young N'Sync Justin Timberlake are physically attractive in a way that I can see being appealing to a large segment of the population so that's not baffling to me. But Clay and Liberace? What?

I can understand how people find the Jonas Brothers or Jesse McCartney attractive even if they are not personally my cup of tea. And I can understand how people can think some celebs are hot even if they are not conventionally attractive, like-oh I don't know-Jon Stewart. But Clay? Not understanding it. At all. And these crazies (Claymates) actually use the words "hot" and "sexy" when describing him. Seriously. This man was born to define the word fugly.

I wouldn't've said "hot" or "sexy," but I thought his whole geeky-boy thing when I first saw him on AI was cute as a button.
I sure as hell didn't ever picture him naked, though!

I once had a sex dream about Clay. It was HORRIFYING. ETA: The right amount of booze in the system...?

I think Clay can look somewhat attractive under certain conditions. The right clothes, the right haircut, the right airbrushing. Considering there are fans who use the words "hot" and "sexy" in regards to Michael Jackson - the current Michael Jackson... well, for me at least, it kind of puts Clay's beauty in perspective.
